Ya'all comin'?

Hey there!  Okay, I'm working like a crazy woman to get ready for a conference next month, so I'm gonna keep this short.  Here's what I'm gearing up for.

Ya'all gonna be there?  Not convinced yet?  Well, here's the author lineup...maybe that'll make up your mind for ya.

Got your ticket yet?  Well, keep in mind that even if you don't attend the conference, there is a book signing on Saturday that is open to the public...and FREE!  So if you're anywhere in the Nashville area, swing by my table on Saturday and say HEY.  Here's the particulars on the book signing...

                    Saturday May 14, 2016 - 3:00-6:00pm - Nashville Marriott Airport
600 Marriott Drive, Nashville, Tennessee 37214 USA

If you're interested in attending the convention, you can get your tickets at:
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/weekend-with-the-authors-formerly-known-as-a-day-with-the-authors-tickets-16789480789

More information at:  https://www.facebook.com/events/902291893145983/

And if you need more convincing, here's a picture from the last conference I attended.  Never know when you might run into a H-O-T cover model.  Can you say Yahoo?!

Hope to see ya'all in Nashville!

That's my story, southern and swanky, and I'm stickin' to it.  Hang on tight now, 'cuz we're gonna go real, real fast!

Love ya,

Kayce

Cold Cold Heart by Tami Hoag

Tami Hoag did a fabulous job of portraying her characters with PTSD and personalities surrounding these people.

The plot is full of twists and many suspects in a gruesome murder.  As soon as you think you have it figured out, think again.
Cold Cold Heart

Dana Nolan had been brutalized by a serial killer.  She was a lucky candidate as she survived by killing the killer.  She came away with personality changes and physical problems she had to contend with.

After a year of working on herself, Dana realizes she lost her best friend, Casey, years ago.  Casey disappeared and Dana felt the need to find out what happened to her.  With a scattered memory bank, Dana tries to fill in the blanks that the police haven’t had success with.

The people around Dana include an over attentive mother, a step-father she doesn’t trust, her high school boyfriend who wants to get back together with her, Casey’s former boyfriend, John who has PTSD from being in the service in Afghanistan, and other members of the community.

So many suspects and so little time to figure out who the new killer in town is.

Happy reading,

A Wedding in Dallas

I just flew in from Dallas….and boy, are my arms tired!
Forgive me...I couldn’t resist that bad joke!
The truth is, I did just get back from Dallas….but we took Southwest.
Why were we in Dallas? This past weekend, my DH and I had the privilege of witnessing our son stand before a judge and recite his vows to the woman he fell in love with (I will admit, I love her too….she’s a lovely woman, inside and out). It was a moment we’ve been waiting to see since he met her. The ceremony was sweet and simple and I will admit my eyes were a little watery—my son, the little boy I watched grow into a wonderful man—wasn’t nervous…not in the least. In fact, I’ve never seen him more certain of anything in his life as he stood tall and proud and pledged to honor, love and cherish this woman who has made him so happy.
Most of us spend our lives looking for our soul mate, the other half of ourselves that makes us complete. I’m so glad he found his.
We also met the bride’s parents for the first time and I now know where she got her big heart and capacity to love unconditionally. We were welcomed with open arms and I saw how much they adore my son. Even before he and his bride exchanged rings, these lovely people treated him as one of their own. I can’t tell you how happy that made me.
We are home now, my DH and I, but my son and his wife are just beginning their journey as a married couple. I know that, just like in the romance novels we read and love, they will have their happily ever after.

As always, happy reading!
Marie

Everything About You

Hey All,

It's a gorgeous day in Wisconsin. Finally!!! I'm going to make this short so I can run barefooted through the park.

Are you looking for a short campy love story? Everything About You might be just what you need. This novella is a perfect entertainment for an hour or two of light reading. Set on a Hollywood movie backdrop, two unlikely people find each other. While you won't find steamy scenes in this book, it is cute and the reviews are great.

She needs a movie set miracle, he needs cash...can a farmer morph into a movie star in five days?

If Shelly has her way, Danny will become America’s next heartthrob and she’ll get her own promotions company. He’s already gorgeous, a little naive, and needs to work on that accent. To Danny, Shelly is on the pompous side, but holds the key to his real dreams...if he can figure out all the rules, say the right things for the daily vlog session, keep his heart strings in place, dodge Shelly’s vicious former boyfriend and the movie star diva.
Shelly’s about to lose a lot more than her heart if she can’t get a handle on her wounded pride and learn who to trust.

Next month I will reveal the new book trailer to Pocketful of Diamonds. Until then, have a wonderful few weeks.

Since we are running from workshops to editor pitches, from schmooze-sessions with the readers to book signings, and from bar to bar, I'm going to keep it brief this week.  Rather than post a story or an excerpt, I'm going to give you an excerpt from the RT conference with some pics.

So enjoy the pics!

It's All Roses and Thorns...

Today I'll share an episode from an author (me) and what I think may parallel other writers at one time or another.
I love to write.  I love to read.  I love to connect with my readers.  I even love to edit- really.
What I don't love is the tech part of writing, or shall I say computer problems.
A few days ago I had a fine day of writing my work in progress.  The following day I wanted to continue that warm fuzzy feeling of getting things done.
Think of this next paragraph in slow motion...
I eased the cover of my laptop up into position, just so to avoid a glare from the sun through the windows.  The power button clicked softly under my forefinger.  I immediately went to "documents" in order to avoid the internet sucking time out of my day.  I had ZERO documents!
What?!Black-footed Prarie dog Free Stock Photos
Speed the reading up...
My mouth fell open.  My eyes blinked at different rates just in case that would bring my work back.  Nope.  All my stories, notes, pictures, everything GONE.
Believe it or not, I didn't panic.  No way could I lose all my work.  Technology simply would not let that happen to me in the twenty-first century.
My cloud must have rained somewhere because it also held nothing.
Okay, my heart did speed up a bit.
Damn Windows 10!  Garbage Free Stock Images
But I can take care of this... The internet worked fine, so I asked it how to retrieve my files.  It only took an hour, but "yeah!" the documents returned.
Not so fast, the black hole of the story still looms.  All documents came back in notepad (not the correct form for writing a novel).
I can fix this too.  Maybe.  Two days later- no I can't.  I now have everything in another format that won't open.
After I post this to the always happy blog, I will take it over to a computer-tech-expert-person who has a business of fixing non-savvy tech users' problems.
I will turn this over to a higher power before I wreck and/or lose everything because then you will be reading about...  I'm not sure what I would do!
By the way, since I will have the expert at hand, I'm returning to Windows 7.  I've had other issues with Windows 10, so I think it's best we part ways.
And what does this have to do with roses and thorns?  Make sure you cut the thorns from the rose stems before depositing in the vase.

Have a rosy (not thorny) day:)

PLEASURE ME by Tina Donahue Available for Pre-order and a Giveaway!

Tina Donahue's Pleasure Me
now available for pre-order!

Blurb:

There’s no place like home…especially for a wolf who shouldn’t have run away.

Wylder Aaron always knew Starr Joseph was his mate, but the time wasn’t right for them. To escape his hopeless feelings for her, he fled Los Lobos and joined the military, not even saying goodbye.

Starr wanted nothing more in life than Wylder. When he left, she fled too. Her sultry beauty made her an instant success as the new look for a major cosmetics firm. However, fame is fleeting. At twenty-six, she’s old news and forgotten. Worse, loneliness led her into the arms of another were-shifter with a jealous streak. During his last rage, he slashed the side of her face, promising to kill her the next time she tried to flee.

She did anyway, returning to the safety and anonymity of Los Lobos…straight into Wylder’s arms.

Excerpt:
He gripped the jamb, steadying himself.

She stood at the edge of the lot, facing the bar. The ends of her glossy black hair and the hem of her olive-green T-shirt fluttered in the mild breeze. Otherwise, there was no movement. She might have been posing for a major ad campaign in one of those high fashion magazines, as she had in the past. Who knew what went through her mind being back in town instead.

He wanted to call out, put her at ease. Fearful she might bolt, he dug his thumbnail into the wood and drank her in.

She’d filled out, no longer the slender teen he recalled, her shape womanly now. Battered jeans hugged her sleek thighs. Her tee stretched provocatively across her ample breasts, the nipples pebbled against the soft cotton despite the warm summer day. A faint rose tint added a hint of color to her pale skin.

From her inner heat or embarrassment?

The wind picked up, whipping her hair back. She snatched the locks to keep them over her left ear and edge of her face.

He didn’t have to wonder why. Her mom had told him some of what happened to Starr in Los Angeles. Not enough though.

She regarded both sides of the street. Deserted. Thick forest surrounded the small town, pines creeping up mountainsides, craggy rocks peeking through primordial vegetation. In the distance, young male voices rang out with laughter. Teens likely racing each other to the swimming hole.

Wylder breathed a sigh of relief the kids weren’t headed closer with their snickers, cruel comments, and mocking gazes. Dumbasses. Bullying wasn’t what Starr needed.

She tilted her face.

Their gazes met.

Starr.

His heart turned over, warmth flooding him. She had the face of an angel, her high cheekbones, full mouth, and almond-shaped eyes almost too beautiful to be real. She parted her lips in what might have been surprise, wonder, or yearning. He liked to think longing was on her mind, the same as his.

Her irises shifted from light brown to dark gold, the way they had in the past when she’d teased, wanting to get a rise out of him.

He’d ignored her then, had to. Not any longer. Their time, here and now, had to be right for him to claim her as his mate. What he’d known from the moment he’d become a man.

He smiled. Hell, he grinned, coming perilously close to drooling.

Gold faded to brown in her eyes, her yearning expression turning to hurt then caution. She stepped back.

Shit, she was going to run. He planted his hands on the jamb of the window and leaned out as far as he could without falling. “Starr.”

She pivoted away then faced him again, looking at the bar rather than up toward him. With her narrow shoulders squared, she marched inside.

Tim McGraw’s Live Like You Were Dying stopped abruptly, along with the patrons’ laughter and conversation, everything going dead quiet as though someone had flipped a switch. Or recalled how she’d run away.
