MEME OF THE WEEK!

Hey, gang, it’s me.  Sorry I’ve been MIA…life has been trying to run me over like a Mack truck chasin’ a Twinkie!  But don’t worry…I’m fast and I’m scrappy…and it ain’t gonna catch me.  LOL

However, in my search for moments of sanity, tranquility, and humor, I have developed a real fondness for searching out cute and funny memes.  So, when I couldn’t think of a darn thing to write about today, I decided to make a meme for ya instead that might make you chuckle and leave your day a little brighter than I found it.

Hope you enjoy the meme.  These are my kind of gals because CRAZY is my superpower, and these girls look like they’d be a crazy-fun posse to run with.

BTW…don’t you just love a woman who’s secure enough in who she is to drink from a brown paper bag and wear hair curlers under her cowgirl hat?!

So, go out and do something fun...get crazy this week!  Of course, ya gotta keep it safe and legal...so get creative...and be committed to your CRAZY.  Own it...rock it!!!

That’s my story, silly and senseless, and I’m stickin’ to it.  Hang on tight now, ‘cuz we’re gonna go real, real fast!

Love ya,

Kayce

My Home Is My Castle

My home is my castle. I’m sure you’ve heard this phrase before, but in my case, it’s true. It really is. It’s my refuge from the world, the place where I’m happiest.
It isn’t a big house. In fact, it’s rather small and old—it was built the year I was born—and reminds me of the kind of houses you’d find back east but it’s cozy and comfortable. At least, I hope it is. I tried really hard to make it a place where you want to take off your shoes and rest for a while.
I’ve been here for twenty years now and I have no plans to leave any time soon. In fact, I joke that I will need to be carried out of here when the time comes, but it doesn’t stop me from looking at other houses. In fact, I love looking at pictures of other homes. From castles to log cabins, picturesque Cape Cods and Saltbox houses popular in New England to sprawling ranch style homes and cozy Craftmans, I love it all.
I do have a particular fondness for Victorian style homes, though, which is perfect, considering that’s the time period I write so I spend a lot of time looking at pictures (and if I’m lucky enough, floor plans). It helps when I’m designing the home my hero or heroines lives in (as a reader, you are invited to kick your shoes off and curl up on the sofa).
I am currently writing about Teague MacDermott, my latest hero, and I’m trying to design the type of house he lives in. He’s got a sense of humor. He’s not particularly rigid or set in his ways (he can’t be…he’s raising his young niece). I imagine it’s clean but has that lived in look with dolls and other things a girl needs spread throughout. Does he have a study? I like to think so and it’s filled with books (he reads for pleasure for himself and reads to his niece nearly every night). It’s a comfortable home and fits him to a T. My heroine, on the other hand, grew up in a mansion in San Francisco.
What will she think the first time she sees his home? Can she see herself there? Forever?

As always, happy reading (and designing!)

Sweet Tricks: A Love Bites Novella by Maggie Dallen

I see why this is called a “love bites” novella.  At the beginning, anyway.

Tabitha shares her Brooklyn apartment with her typical choice of bad boy, musician, fly-by-night sort of man.  He camps at her place, she provides, and then he disappears to play a gig.

This time he didn’t come back.

Time for a cocktail with the best girlfriends.  What could be better?  Maybe the bartender.  And was he!Sweet Tricks: A Love Bites Novella by Maggie Dallen

Jack couldn’t help but hear the girls’ chatter.  Although, all he was interested in was Tabitha.

Tabitha isn’t considering another boyfriend with a job as a bartender and also a musician as she finds out.  He’s probably just like all the others.  But his eyes are so…so beautiful.

Jack can’t tell Tabitha everything about himself.  She wants her to like him for himself, not his, uh, assets.

So how does the truth come out?  The truth must be revealed to have a real relationship.  It’s a rough road to the truth with a few detours to the end.

A sweet romance with tingling issues!

Happy reading,

Dawn

Blurb: The job should have been easy—patrol a swank beach that serves as a backyard for Maui’s rich, kick out the riffraff, and get a tan in the process. But rent-a-cop Samantha Winters didn’t anticipate a deliciously grumpy cop, Sergeant Grady Roark, who comes down to the beach to bust her chops and instead leaves her breathless…and wondering why the one man who could help her seems determined to thwart her at every turn. Grady is keeping secrets from Sam that have him walking the line between attraction and duty. But when Sam becomes the target of a shadowy organization, Grady will have to choose between the law and the temptation of a woman who has him breaking every rule he’s ever known. The job should have been easy, but when the bullets start flying, Sam learns nothing is as easy as it seems when you’re a Gun for Hire.

Excerpt:
“The sunlight was intense after a half hour in that gloomy space, but I squinted hard and kept moving toward a narrow set of steps down to the parking lot. Grady walked a few paces behind me, and if he heard the crinkle of paper as I moved, he elected not to say anything.

Grady hit the remote to his truck and grabbed for the passenger side door, his hand light on my elbow as he helped me up. Paper crackled as my butt hit the seat and Grady’s eyes narrowed. Without a word, he slammed my door and went around to the driver’s side, climbing up into the cab and stabbing the keys into the ignition.

“So, I—” I hesitated as I shifted in my seat and my movement was accompanied by the distinct sound of cardboard bending.

“No,” Grady muttered, and clicked on the radio. “No talking.”

“But—”

“Shh.” Grady put a finger to his lips, his eyes still on the road. “Any minute you’re going to tell me about the felony crime you just committed. And then I’m going to have to deal with the fact that I was an accessory to a felony crime."

“Umm, yeah.” I reached around to the back of my pants and eased the file folder up from my waistband, working it out slowly so as to not lose anything as Grady headed up the hillside toward his house. As I brought it around to look at it, the red block letters damning me to years of incarceration should I get caught, a muscle ticked in Grady’s jaw.

“You stole classified documents.” He shook his head from side to side.

I looked up at Grady and then down at the mangled file with the red Top Secret heading. I took a corner of the front sheet and ripped across the width of the page, separating the words “Top Secret” from the rest of the paper.

“They’re declassified now.” I crumpled up the classification and shoved it in my pocket.

Grady sighed.

I shrugged and opened the file.”
