Excerpt from For the Love of Max:
Procrastinating was getting him nowhere. She was either home or she wasn’t. She was either going to kick him off her property or she wasn’t. She was either going to let him in or she wasn’t. Wiping his damp palms against his jeans, he sauntered up the steps and knocked. The door cracked, but the safety chain prevented it from opening fully. He glimpsed a veil of long, black hair. “Maxine?” She squinted. Damn. The sun behind him was bright in her eyes, casting him in deep shadows. “It’s Dodge. Remember me? I brought you home after the company Christmas party?” After Garth got wasted and abandoned you? Happy to step in, Dodge had driven her home, trying not to look at her gorgeous legs encased by her tight silver skirt and sheer pantyhose. Red-blooded man he was, he’d adjusted himself when she looked away and had done his best to hide his erection when escorting her to the door. “Wait.” Say something that’ll keep her talking. “I—” The door closed, opening a moment later. Dodge was a sucker for sun-kissed light-brown skin, wavy long black hair, almond-shaped dark-brown eyes, soft cheekbones, and a pert nose. The bangs were new as was the yellowing bruise on her cheek. Damn. Ducking her head, Maxine’s hand shot to the bruise. He gently touched her chin, and when she didn’t recoil, he tipped it, forcing her gaze to his. “The man is an animal. I’m not like him.” The smile was tentative. “I know.” Soft words, replete with meaning. Not going to send him away. Yet. But he needed more. Maxine extended her hand, which he gratefully took. The electric shock shot through him, so strong he expected a blue arc between them. Her cheeks flushed, her gaze flying to his before lowering. She tried to pull away, but he held tight.

Veronica Reviews: THE DUKE IS BUT A DREAM by Anna Bennett

The Duke is but a Dream
(Debutante Diaries #2)
Anna Bennett

5 Stars

“I will never have enough of you…If we stayed just like this for a hundred years, it would feel too short.”

Lily Hartley, along with her sister and dearest friend, has been secretly writing a column in the local paper—The Debutante’s Revenge.  The column offers advice to the ladies of the ton that may be seeking out their future husband.  Disguised as a young lad, Lily drops off their newest installment, but on her way home, is waylaid in a tavern skirmish.  But as luck would have it, the Duke of Stonebridge notices she is a lady in distress and comes to her rescue.  Receiving a rather large bump to the head, Lily is whisked to the Duke’s home to convalesce.  Too bad when she wakes, she has no memory of why she is there or even who she is.

Eric Nash, Duke of Stonebridge, has been in a self-imposed exile since the passing of his twin sister.  Having a drink at the local tavern, he is mesmerized by a beautiful woman that is for some odd reason dressed as a boy.  Being her savior is the least he can do, if only he knew her name.

Lily and Nash work together trying to locate her family and discover her identity…and in the process, develop a bond that surpasses the need for names, for when the heart discovers it’s other half, no name beyond Love is required.  “When I’m with you—no matter what I’m doing or where I am—I feel like I’m right where I belong.”

Oh I so enjoyed this light romantic read.  While this is the 2nd installment of Anna Bennett’s Debutante Diaries, it may be read standalone.  Lily and Nash’s HEA is everything.  “…we never know what the next day may bring.  If you’re always waiting on the future, it’s easy to miss the joy of the present.”

Born In Fire (Fire and Ice Trilogy 1) by K.F. Breene

Reagan loves her job. It doesn't always pay the bills or put food on the table, but being a supernatural bounty hunter has its cool points.
Kicking butt, forgetting names, and knowing her powers are top-of-the-line and need to be kept secret, can backfire at times.
Needing cash, she takes on a job dealing with elder vampires.  Hard to trust, she warily enters their den only to have her bounty stolen and no money to show for her work.Born In Fire
In walks Darius, extremely gorgeous elder vampire, with an offer.
He knows Reagan is desperate for cash since he was the one who set her up.
How can a vampire be so frustrating and so hot all in one?  Reagan wants nothing to do with Darius, but ultimately sets her own rules in order to work with him.
That was the easy part.  Now comes the fun, the danger, and the OMG, heated hearts!
Greatly exciting with spells ricocheting, fires leaping, elves, mages, and a whole cast working New Orleans as the mystical place was meant to be!
I love reading K.F. Breene.  She has wit that continues through every page and never fails to make me laugh even when a character gets killed.

Read on!

MOONSHINE AND MAGNOLIAS by Abigail Sharpe has Released and there's a Giveaway!

Moonshine and Magnolias
by Abigail Sharpe

Hotel executive Wendy Marsh puts her career on hold when she inherits half of her family’s inn. Her to-do list? It’s simple: teach her spoiled cousin how to manage Fountenoy Hall, then hightail it back to her structured, careful life in Atlanta. Romance has never been part of Wendy's plan – so what is it about the sexy history professor researching the inn that she finds so tempting?

Rob Upshaw would be enjoying his time at the Inn at Fountenoy Hall if he wasn’t secretly hunting for a family treasure lost during Prohibition. Only a few minor inconveniences stand in his way. His uncle’s old journals are cryptic, he has only a vague description of the loot, and the beautiful, uptight innkeeper with a subtle sense of humor might hold the key to his quest. Even though Rob’s career is built on facts, he accepts he might have to lie to Wendy. But falling for her? That’s out of the question.

Moonshine and Magnolias is a Just Add Peaches novel. Each book in the series is a stand-alone, passionate and playful contemporary romance, but you'll want more than one juicy bite.

As the danger mounts for Tyler,, can he wrestle free of his past and lure Regan away from her Senator? Join our handsome hero as he attempts to win back his love in this exciting and steamy page turner, the fourth of the sexy, contemporary Beguiling Bachelor romance series.

Excerpt from Besotted: Regan was just too damn alluring in that dress for him to accept that he couldn’t have her if he wanted her. He was an idiot. He should have told her years ago. He should have told everyone. Despite the tongue- lashing he was silently giving himself, Tyler was certainly no fool. “The professor” to his friends, he was generally serious and professional. He had the smarts necessary to obtain both an MBA and a law degree, and he was now CEO of LHRE and on hiatus from one of the fastest growing tech companies in the country. He kept his cool in general, but again and again he behaved like an idiot around Regan. Since that damn frog almost thirty years ago, he had loved no one but Regan. Sometimes they made it work together, like in high school, but most times not. His feelings were unchanged, but something always stopped him from declaring his love and asking her to do the same. This time it was something insurmountable. And yet Tyler couldn’t stay away. He was the proverbial moth to the flame, flirting with disaster every time he flirted with her. He had promised to stay away, to keep her safe, but the attraction was undeniable. Yep, prize idiot. Returning to the ballroom after the latest threats, Tyler briefly considered sharing the conversation, coming clean with Regan and perhaps moving their relationship forward. He was at a fork in the road but remained silent, Tyler knew he was on the wrong path but couldn’t summon the will to fix it. Not only were his problems unsolvable, but she was involved with Brandon. Tyler felt hopeless. He was preoccupied just as Regan accused, but Tyler tried to give Regan the attention she deserved. He failed miserably until Regan suggested they just leave. That got his attention. Who knew when he would hold her in his arms again. “Come dance with me again. It would be a crime to waste that dress.” Encircling Regan in his arms, his body responded to her nearness, even as his mind worried over the earlier texts. He was unaware of his hand stroking her back, fingers lightly skimming over her bare skin. He wasn’t thinking clearly when he pulled her close or when he dropped kisses on her hair. He wasn’t paying attention, just acting on instinct, Regan was responding, her breath growing uneven, her hands clinging to his shoulders.

Am I Too Predictable?

Hello, gentle readers!
I must ask…have I taken my routines and schedules too far? The reason I ask…I was balancing my checkbook this morning and noticed (probably for the first time) how predictable I am.
Without fail, I grocery shop every Sunday, generally around the same time (and yes, there are reasons I do this at that specific time, but that’s neither here nor there). I also fill my car with gas on the same day, right after I leave the grocery store, whether I need gas or not. I go to the same places for take-out (DH and I have take-out on Saturday nights *sigh* That would be routine, too). I even pay my bills on a schedule.
It’s all there, in black and white, on my bank statement!
If someone was following me to learn my habits, they’d be bored out of their minds. I go to the day job and come home, stopping along the way if I need to. I meet friends for breakfast or dinner, generally at the same time during the month.
On the other hand, my routines really work for me. It’s the only way to get things done that need to be done and I’m all about completing tasks (it offends my sense of order to leave things undone). Dishes get done and the kitchen is cleaned after dinner every night. On Saturdays, I do our laundry and iron my work clothes for the week and on Sundays (grocery day), I cut up my veggies and make my salads for the work week.
I told my DH I need to change things up a bit. He laughed. Not a little chuckle either, but a full-fledged belly laugh. I guess that means he doesn’t think I can do it. He may be right. After all, I’ve been living with these habits for the better part of thirty years. I did remind him, though, that he was not a big proponent of change either. Hmmm, maybe this is something we can work on together.
Until next time, remember to spread kindness wherever you go.

Veronica Reviews: The Billionaire and the Beast by Brynn Paulin

The Billionaire and the Beast
by Brynn Paulin
Contemporary Romance

5+ Stars

“I would never hurt you.  Ever.”
“Good…I’ve had enough of that in my life.”
Cricket considers herself the ugly stepsister in her non-fairytale life.  For as long as she can remember, her family has constantly diminished her confidence.  Her goal is to take the college scholarship she’s fought so hard to obtain and get as far away from them as she can.  Before she can leave, her father forces her to attend a function to network and obtain a job.  Once again, Cricket finds herself being the wallflower to her stepsister Ella. But for all of Ella’s beauty, it was Cricket that stood out amongst the crowd and snagged the attention of Brix.

Brix has more money than he could ever spend, as well as his own family issues. Sent to an event by his grandfather to search out a bride, he’s mesmerized by the beauty in the corner.  There is something that draws him immediately to her, and when he gazes into her eyes, his heart screams “she’s the one”.

Brix and Cricket instantly “clicked, like two puzzle pieces meant to connect.”  But their love story isn’t all sunshine and rainbows.  This fairytale has a villain set out to destroy any happiness Cricket obtains, and Brix will have to slay the proverbial dragon to protect what is his.

Ok, I’m totally obsessed with any and all stories with a Beauty & the Beast theme, and Brynn Paulin weaves a romance that has that and so much more!  I could not put this book down, and immediately read it again!  I loved it that much!  Brix and Cricket have the most amazing happily ever after!  Highly recommend!  5 Plus Stars!

Happy Father's Day! And more . . .

Happy Father's Day!!!

My posts seem to have the good fortune of falling on or near special days. But even as I write this the day before, I'm trying to think of traditions that my family celebrates on Father's Day. I can't think of one other than grilling out. Which is special in the fact that I make my dad and father-in-law work on their day. Lol. But they seem to love it! Do you do anything to mark to occasion in your family? Let me know in the comments!

Now, books! I'm super excited to announce When Rio Surrenders is up for preorder and will be released on 6/27/19. The ebook is marked at special Father's Day price of only 99¢. Get it before the price go up.

When Rio Surrenders

Rio Reese has a strict no-dating policy at his newly opened gym. However, that doesn’t stop him from noticing the newest member, Gina. From the moment he sees her, he is drawn to her. When he finds out she’s an experienced accountant, he enlists her help to straighten out his bookkeeping. But that makes her off-limits in two categories: member and staff. A double whammy.

All Gina wants is an exercise routine that will get rid of her love handles. What she finds is a class that’s way too difficult and a sinfully attractive gym owner who is interested in her accounting skills. She accepts Rio’s temporary job offer. Thinking he is solely interested in her for her expertise, Gina attempts to keep her growing feelings for him at bay.

While Rio makes a valiant effort to keep Gina out of his own reach, he finds that when she’s around, things just don’t go as planned. He’s falling hard for her and is about to shred his no-dating policy when he discovers that Gina is keeping a secret from him that threatens his business. While his heart sways in one direction, his bruised ego runs in another. Between running a fragile startup business and finding the truth, Rio must make a hard decision. But will he make the right one?

When Rio Surrenders is the first book of the Loved by Reese series that will launch this summer!
