TRACE'S TROUBLE by Lexi Post on Sale for Labor Day. Only 99¢!

Trace's Trouble
(Last Chance #2)
by
Lexi Post

“There are some twist an turns , a few oh my God moments, a lot of loving, wow if I had Trace I would be just like Whisper.” – Amazon Reviewer

Cowboy Trace Williams thought he had trouble when his wife served him with divorce papers, forcing him to move to his cousin’s horse rescue ranch. But that was nothing compared to handling the female squatter he’s supposed to evict from Last Chance Ranch. Though she’s a crack shot and has no use for politeness or subtlety, her ability to communicate with animals has him seeking her out on behalf of the ranch…and himself.

Whisper Adams lives off the grid. She cares for her invalid uncle and watches over the wildlife that finds her. The animals are more trustworthy than the people she’s encountered. So when a hard-bodied, easy going cowboy arrives at her trailer and causes her heart to race, she’s anxious for him to leave, until he asks for her help at the ranch.

Since they end up together more often than she prefers, Whisper doesn’t deny her attraction to Trace, who introduces her to new experiences, from riding horses to an erotic night in bed. But mixing with people, any people, opens her to new threats. This relationship might cost Trace his heart, but it could very well cost Whisper her life.

What's in a Name?

Hello, gentle readers!
What’s in a name? Everything, especially if you’re writing historical western romance. Names should be in keeping with the time that you’re writing in AND should fit your character…which brings me to my current conundrum. I have chosen a name for the heroine of the new story I’m working on. And it does fit her. Very much so. She’s a very prim and proper Bostonian suddenly thrust into a small town in Texas. And she’s a doctor.
Here’s the problem. My hero just doesn’t think her name fits her and calls her something else, a nickname that isn’t normally associated with that name. Well, of course, she doesn’t like it and pretty much tells him so; however, our hero is a fun-loving, not serious in the least type person and insists that’s what he’s going to call her. Doesn’t matter much what she says. And to make matters worse, he has everyone in the whole town calling her this new nickname that just isn’t the norm for her name, much to her frustration (though not for long).
So here’s my question…I can do this, can’t I? There is no hard and fast rule that says because your name is this, everyone will naturally shorten it to the most common diminutive. You see, over the course of the story, my heroine will lose some of her properness and learn to have fun and then her new nickname will fit her perfectly.
Do you have an opinion on this? I would love to hear your thoughts…or am I worrying over nothing (I’m really good at that)?

Until next time, remember to spread kindness wherever you go.

Veronica Reviews: BLACKBIRD by Lisa Shelby

Blackbird
by
Lisa Shelby

5 Stars

“I knew you were a game changer the moment I met you.”

When Delta Force Specialist Huck catches a glimpse of Harper, he knows she’s the one.  Their short time together is spent in a tropical paradise, but one that comes to an abrupt halt when Huck is called away on a mission.

Harper was warned that Huck may have to leave at a minutes notice, but when she wakes to him gone, it’s still a shock.  But he promised to always find her…he promised…

When Huck’s mission goes FUBAR, he feels beyond broken and no longer worthy of Harper’s love.  But fate steps in, and leads these soulmates back to each other…if only Huck had kept his promise…

Lisa Shelby has written a second chance romance not to be missed.  I made the mistake of starting it before I went to bed and one more chaptered myself up till The End in the wee hours of the morning.  I loved it that much!  Blackbird is beautifully written and highly recommended!

The Overdue Life of Amy Byler by Kelly Harms

This book was written for single mom's, but anyone can love it!
Amy Byler, mom of teenage son and daughter, needs a break and didn't even know it.
Amy's husband left for good three years ago until he came back to town.  John shows up at the local drug store without notice. He wants to be seen as Amy thinks about hiding out in the aisles.
John only hid out in Hong Kong with his young girlfriend, and now wants to reclaim his children and maybe his wife. The Overdue Life of Amy Byler
Amy's besties have another idea.  Local friend and New York friend plan a week off from everything for Amy in New York.  It's called momspringa!  Suckered into being wined and dined, new makeup and clothes, and new men to try on, and no children, Amy originally went to New York for a librarian convention.
The convention has its own surprise in the form of a Hot Librarian.  Maybe that should've been the title.  His name is Daniel.
Amy feels the heat that hasn't kindled her heart for years over this one.  Not to mention all her blind dates.
So now Amy has her ex, John, the Hot Librarian, Daniel, and some other quite captivating men in her life.
Just when I think I know which man has surrounded her heart, the scene changes.  Quite a cute and exciting story as to how Amy gets her life back with the approval of her children!

Happy reading,

Cover Reveal for RILEY'S RESCUE by Lexi Post

Riley's Rescue
By
Lexi Post

Finally, the cover for the 6th book in the Last Chance series is revealed!

Last Chance may be a horse rescue ranch, but for Riley O’Hare, it’s a whole lot more.

Riley just takes it one day at a time, the horses at Last Chance giving more meaning to her life than anything else since she returned from her tour in the Middle East with no scars…at least on her body. Alone in the world, she’s now part of a bigger unit again, and she’s not too sure that’s a good thing.

He’s the new driver delivering the rescue horses to Last Chance Ranch. There’s a lot more to him than just being a polite cowboy. He used to be a Hot Shot, one of the firefighters who fought wildfires, and there is a very good reason why he isn’t anymore.

Can two people, wounded by their past occupations, rescue each other, or will their scars run too deep?

I had to find just the right model for Riley's personality. This is so her! I hope you like the cover 😊

Always, Lexi

A New Story Begins!

Hello, gentle readers!
As you may know from reading my blog, I have just finished writing Wife For Hire and while it’s still going through critique and beta read, I have started a new story (it’s called Wife Wanted). To my way of thinking, there’s nothing more exciting (even more exciting that typing “The End”). This is where the fun begins, at least for me.
Now, I know there are authors out there who just sit down and begin writing…the plot, the characters, all of it, just coming to them as their fingers glide over the keyboard. Some need a little more, like the black moment before they can begin.
That isn’t me. There’s much to be done before I can begin working on the story.
It starts, of course, with an idea…the first blush of “What if…”. From there, it’s the character description and names (I try really hard to match the character name with how they are and what they look like. And yes, I use actors and actresses for that. In Angel in the Moonlight, my heroine looked like Catherine Zeta-Jones from The Mask of Zorro and my hero reminded me of Sam Elliott and Tom Selleck—well, maybe it was just their mustaches!).
Then it’s on to the plot points. I don’t write an outline as I have a tendency to veer off course and let the story take me where it wants to go.
And finally, the really fun stuff. Researching the time period, creating the town or ranch or farm where the action takes place, and the homes people lived in. Then—and I love this part—I get to look at the fashions of that time. Some of the gowns the women wore were just beautiful and I can imagine my heroine and her friends dressing like that.
After I do all that, I clean my computer room. I know it sounds odd, but that’s what I do. Once this room is clean, I can begin (it’s a routine and you all know how much I love routines…that isn’t to say I don’t clean this room during the writing process…I do. I have to. I share this room with my DH, who likes to leave little stickies all over).
So, with my computer room clean, my research all done and pictures saved, I have begun working on Gabe and Andi’s story. So far, it’s a hoot!

Until next time, remember to spread kindness wherever you go.

Veronica Reviews: RESISTING THE ROCK STAR by Megan Slayer

Resisting the Rock Star
by Megan Slayer

4 Stars

“You could have anyone…”
“You’re right.  I could have anyone I want, and that person is you.”

Rock legend Mason “Kross” Khan has been living life in the fast lane.  Selling millions of albums, performing before sell-out crowds and being the lead singer and songwriter for his band, suddenly he finds himself the father of a teenager and circumstances have him to heading to small-town America to meet and care for him.  He’s determined to take a break from the industry, and get to know the son he never knew he had.

Danya Littrell is the local high school art teacher, and just by chance, meets Mason at a bar.  Flustered that he shows an interest in her rather than her friends, she decides to do something daring—she has a one night stand with the hot stranger.  But when parent teacher conference day arrives, she is shocked to discover that her midnight booty call is none other than the father of one of her students.

Mason isn’t sure what it is about Danya, but her kindness and strength calls to him.  In his eyes, she is the most beautiful woman he has ever seen, but convincing Danya will take work.  Her ex was a verbally abusive man who cheated on her…a man that just happened to be in a musician, and she has sworn off those types.  Now Mason is torn between sharing the secret of his identity or keeping the knowledge to himself out of fear that she will reject him before their relationship has a chance.

Resisting the Rock Star is an enjoyable well-written story that I would recommend, and look forward to reading more about Mason’s bandmates!

Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter

How can love rip a family apart?  Karin Slaughter has that twist in her novel.
Lydia and Claire, two sisters left to figure out their lives after their oldest sister disappears and their parents fall into their own despair, end up with a problem that bring them back together after twenty years.
The problem is still their missing sister.  UK
Lydia is my favorite character.  She's the one that fought hard to correct her life, the addictions, the search for something right in her life, and dealing with the estrangement of her family. Her boyfriend of ten years doesn't sound so enticing on the outside, past criminal convictions, but loves her and really loves her!
Claire acts too perfect, the rich husband, has everything material, and doesn't see the truth.
That is, until it all unravels.  Claire's husband is murdered, evidence of her missing sister surfaces along with letters her father wrote to the missing sister (never delivered, of course), and letters from her mother to Lydia, also never delivered.
The proof of the sister's disappearance definitely points to one person, but who else is involved?  Local police?  The FBI? family members?  This is where the real love breaks free of the lies and repairs tattered relationships!

Happy reading,
Dawn

INDULGE ME by Tina Donahue just released!

Indulge Me
(Wanna Be Bad – Book 1)
by Tina Donahue

Erotic Contemporary
Blurb:
Nothing forbidden…nothing held back.

Lissa prefers reading to cutting loose, but is willing to do whatever it takes to get the juiciest assignments for her job at a major travel magazine. Her chance finally arrives. She’s set to experience a posh Caribbean resort, a dream article and review except for one huge problem. It’s the anything goes theme week where nudity is expected and lusty hook-ups make threesomes look downright tame. Holy Hell. What has she gotten herself into?

Precisely what resort owner Jon Thorne thinks. Tall, dark, and luscious, he fears the randy male guests will eat her alive, resulting in a lousy review. His only option is to serve as her guide for every decadent delight from nude body painting to Dom’s Den where submission and punishment rule. Unless she wants to call the whole thing off…

And lose her chance with him, plus give up this gig? Dream on. Tempted beyond anything she’s known, she matches his passion and then some, surprising him during a sexy adventure like no other.

Excerpt:
A mole graced her temple, which he hadn’t noticed before, along with three barely visible freckles on her nose. He liked both and met her gaze.

She held his.
The air calmed, and sounds faded. Everything surrounding them drifted away.
His heart beat wildly. He cupped her face, unable to help himself.
She stilled, her lips parting.
An invitation he couldn’t accept. It was lunacy. They were only playing at this. He should take her to the hardcore attractions so she’d flee, as he wanted, rather than focusing on her softness surrounded by his strength, or her heat increasing his.
Leave. Bring her somewhere else. Convince her to go home.
He stepped away from the fence, taking her with him, then touched his mouth to hers and slipped his tongue inside.
God.
His skin tingled. She tasted clean and pepperminty, her own unique flavor indescribable, beating out the others.
Lost in her warmth and scent, he slipped his arm around her waist and held her close, kissed her deep, and forgot about everything else.

***

Shocking delight tore through Lissa, her heart turning over. She melted into Jon, hungry for whatever he desired, eager to sate her own need.
Brisk ocean air pushed against her, urging her closer to him, her strained breaths mingling with his.
Now this was a vacation. No. An adventure she never believed she’d experience.
Intoxicated by his size and heat, she wreathed her arms around his shoulders, loving his bristly cheeks rasping hers.
He held her firmly, yet gently, subduing his exquisite strength.
She loved him like this, but wouldn’t have minded if he’d turned savage, too, demanding everything. Sagging against him, she delivered herself to pleasure.
A low growl poured from deep within his chest, making it quiver against hers, signaling his appreciation at what they did. He angled his mouth for greater penetration, and she followed his lead as she’d promised in his office.
Oh hell, she surpassed it, her pulse racing.
Growing greedy then bold, she pushed his tongue from her mouth and slipped hers into his, desperate to taste his incomparable flavor: clean and bearing a sweetness she had to have.
Powerful and eager sounds poured from him.
There wasn’t a thing in the world better than that. If she could have made her own noises, she would have but was too breathless.
A sudden gust battered them, the wind tugging her pants, exposing her.
He cupped her bare butt cheek.
Her heart leaped at his intimate touch, then beat triple time.
He squeezed her ass, leaving heated bursts in his wake, and stroked her thong.
Moisture seeped from her pussy. It ached, wanting his cock inside, stretching and using her while she indulged in his lust, matching it with her own.
She struggled to get closer, but couldn’t. Damn. They were already as near as two people could be. She wrapped her leg around his.
His frenzied kiss grew tender and exploring.
Undone by its power, she surrendered further, the world whirling around them. She clung to him for support, never wanting this to end.
