New Release ~ TO LOVE SOMEONE by Maryann Jordan

To Love Someone

(Baytown Boys, Book 14)

by

Maryann Jordan

Blurb

Not everyone has a hero’s welcome home.

Joseph landed in Baytown when he left the military and had nowhere else to go. Used to being a loner, he discovered the small coastal town offered friendship… but love? That wasn’t even on his radar.

Until meeting her. The infuriatingly independent veterinarian. Known to all as Sam, to him she would always be Samantha.

When danger lurks for her, Joseph privately vows to protect her. But who will protect his heart when all he wants is to love someone?

Baytown Boys…
Military duty called them away to war zones, but after tours overseas, the group of friends found their way back home as men, seeking the peaceful little seaside town. Now, the band of brothers, together once more, work to provide a place for less fortunate veterans to call home.

Author Bio

USA Today Bestselling and Award-Winning Author

For me, the love of writing came from my love of reading.  Some of my early memories were of my mother taking me to the library and allowing me to check out as many books as I could carry.

Discovering the old historical romance books in the 1980's called to my love of romance and happy endings. In 2013, I finally gave in to the characters in my head pleading for their romantic suspense love stories to be told, and I now have over sixty books published.

I worked as an adolescent and family counselor and was involved in education for almost thirty years until retiring in 2015.  I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for thirty-nine years, who is my biggest supporter. I have two daughters and three grandchildren, plus my rescue dog and cats.

Veronica Reviews - The Monster Keeps Me Safe by Kitty Thomas

The Monster Keeps Me Safe

by

Kitty Thomas

★★★★★

5-Stars

Dark Romance/Erotica

“This was a fake fairy tale…and my tears weren’t magic.”

Imagine waking up in a strange location with no memories…no memories of your past, how you got there, or even your name. Where the only truth is what is told to you, and to be faced with decisions to either believe that person or to believe your instincts. I’m not going to do a summary of this story because it would lead to major spoilers!! I’ll just say that Kitty Thomas has a way of world building in her stories that draws you in, and you, the reader, believe the truths she is weaving.

I loved this story so much that I immediately started reading it again. I do believe I’ve found a tale I love more than her COMFORT FOOD. This dark journey had so many twists and turns it kept my heart racing. I can’t recommend this, as well as her other stories enough!

The Authenticity Project by Clare Pooley

It's well-known that people put their "best" self forward for their world, community, and friends to see and know.  To discover their true selves, is another story.

Monica gave up her high-stress professional life and created a coffee house.  Right there, I knew the novel would be warm and comforting.

Monica finds a notebook with a statement from an unknown person.  It's the type of revelation that made her sit down and think:  Who wrote this, what made him reveal his private thoughts, and how can I help this lonely person?  He signed his statement.

The notebook is entitled "The Authenticity Project."  Write you're true story and pass it on, are the instructions.  The mismatch of people who accidently encounter the notebook bring together a delightful group of people who all have something unsatisfactory in their lives of which they want to fix.

They gather at Monica's Coffee, not known to any why they inadvertently collected.  None are alike, yet compliment each other.  An artist past his prime, a traveler experiencing life, an alcoholic finding himself,  a helper of sick, and several other people color the notebook.

Monica convinces herself that Riley is the man she was meant to find and connect their lives.  He's young, impressionable, and isn't going to stay in one place for long.  Maybe she can fit into a world like that.

As the characters encounter and learn about one another, what is simple to one is an extraordinary addition to another in their lives.  Monica learns what she can and will change in her life and what she won't.  It may be surprising who her true love and future lies with.

Happy reading,

Dawn

Anna Blakely

A man who believes he’s unworthy of love. A woman determined to make him see the truth. An enemy watching from the shadows, ready to destroy them both for good.

Blurb ~

Former Marine Adrian Walker has been called a lot of things…Liar. Traitor. Murderer. Bastard. In order to keep his country safe, he had to become all those things and more. And he’s been fine with it, until now. Until her. One glance into Jenna Shaw’s emerald eyes is all it takes for Adrian to fall. But after everything he’s done and every enemy he’s made, Adrian knows a future with the fiery redhead is an impossible dream. She deserves to be happy. To live a life free from the dangers of his world. She deserves…more.

Within seconds of meeting Adrian Walker, E.R. nurse Jenna Shaw wanted to kill him. Months later—after a late-night appearance on her doorstep, followed by a cold and heartless vanishing act—the only thing that’s changed is her motive. Desperate to escape the tumultuous memories of the sexy bad boy, Jenna accepts a job in an area some consider dangerous. What she doesn’t know is danger has already been watching her. Waiting for the perfect chance to use her in his sick game.

When Jenna suddenly goes missing, Adrian will do whatever it takes to find her. Even if it means asking the men of Bravo—as well as Ghost and his Delta team—for help. Can Adrian and others find Jenna in time to save her, or will the dangers from his past be the catalyst that destroys them both?

Take a Peek Inside

I shouldn’t want you.

Jenna was spot f***ing on when she’d said those words. Of course, he’d known that shit from the start.

She shouldn’t want a man like him. She should be with someone who was safe. Trustworthy. A banker or a doctor. An accountant, maybe.

Someone whose life didn’t revolve around death and deceit.

But by some miracle, she’d chosen him. And God help her, he was too weak to walk away a second time.

Adrian did, however, find the strength to tear his lips from hers long enough to look her in the eye. He needed to be very clear when he told her this next part. Needed to make sure she understood what she was signing up for.

“You were right.” He pulled in a ragged breath.

“About what?”

“You shouldn’t want me.”

Jenna started to shake her head. The argument was already there, brewing behind her determined gaze.

Make it clear, shithead. Tell her the truth and let her decide.

“I’ve done things.” He clenched his jaw. “Terrifying things that would send you running in the opposite direction.”

Her auburn brows fell inward. “Why are you telling me this now?”

“Because I’m not a good man, Jenna.” He swallowed hard. “Not the kind of man you deserve.”

The lines on her forehead smoothed as a look of understanding crossed over her. “Is that why you left after our first time together? Because you think I deserve someone better?”

I know you do.

“I thought if I could have you that one time, I’d be able to forget you. I thought…” Adrian pulled her flush against his chest, holding her so tightly, his fingers dug into her back. “I thought these flames burning me up inside would go away, and I could move on but…”

“But what?”

He stared deep into her emerald eyes and shook his head. “The fire grew.”

“Adrian…”

She needs to know.

“You shouldn’t want me,” he reiterated the point. “You should go back to California. Stay as far away from me as you can.”

Her eyes softened and…was she smiling?

She’s not listening.

“I’m giving you an out, Jenna.”

“Funny.” The corners of her lips definitely curved. “I don’t recall asking for one.”

“I’m serious.” His voice came out rough. “You said it yourself…I’m a killer.”

“I know.”

Why isn’t she listening?

“I’ll kill anyone who even thinks about hurting you and not lose a wink of sleep.”

His declaration didn’t send her running. She didn’t flinch or tear herself from his arms. Instead, she seemed to hold him closer.

Didn’t she hear what I just said? Can’t she see the darkness living inside me?

“I’ve walked away from you once before.” He laid it all out there. “I don’t think I can do it again.”

“Good.” She cupped one side of his face. “I don’t want you to walk away. And, whether you want to believe it or not, I know exactly what kind of man you are.”

“No, you—”

“You’re the kind of man who gave up the life he knew for his country. You risked yourself to save my friend.” She rose up, her lips a hair’s breadth away from his. “You risked your life for me.”

I’d risk everything for you.

“Jenna—”

That’s the kind of man I want to be with. That’s the kind of man I can see myself falling for.”

His heart punched his ribs like a prize fighter. “Be sure, baby. You need to be sure.”

Because he was pretty sure he’d already fallen.

“I am sure, Adrian.” Her lips whispered across his as she spoke. “I want you.” A simple kiss. “I want all of you.”

And just like that, his control snapped.

A POCKET IN TIME receives 5 Star Review from Affair de Coeur

A Pocket in Time (Time Weavers Inc. #2) Lexi Post Entangled Publishing E-book 968-1649371306

“Love is the only reason to be alive. To die with never knowing what it’s like to love and be loved is the cruelest sentence.”

Welcome to Time Weavers, Inc. (TWI), where the agents have the power to travel in time to fix ripples caused by the Disruptors.

Katz Almira grew up on the streets and is now using her street smarts to be one of the best agents TWI employs--one of the best agents to bend the rules just a wee bit to make sure the job gets done. Her newest mission is to travel back to Regency London and intercept a note that was placed in the wrong hands causing a disruption to the time line in the future. Posing as a fellow pickpocket, Katz befriends a group of lost boys to get in good with their benefactor Lord John Byron. But the one thing Katz didn’t plan on was falling in love with her mark. With the future of the world at stake, Katz must decide if creating a pocket in time is worth saving her love.

LOVED IT! LOVED IT! LOVED IT! Oh, did I mention I LOVED IT? Regency romances are a fav, and add the time travel Quantum Leap scenario, and this chick is one happy reader! Katz is as strong a heroine you could ask for that falls for a hero who manages to melt the ice she’s built around her heart. Impossible to put down and one of my fav reads of the year! While this is the second in the “Time Weavers,” series, the author has written it to be a standalone. Loved and highly recommend!!

Here’s a cheat sheet of the Rules for Time Weavers, Inc., (TWI) Agents:

Rule One: Don’t change history; only change it back.

Rule Two: Never travel back to a period and place already visited.

Rule Three: Travel no more than once a day.

Rule Four: Do not hint at anything in the future.

Rule Five: Do not make friends.

Family

Hello, gentle readers! Hope you are all well and staying safe!
Well, here it is again. My turn to post my blog. And I have the perfect topic – family, whether related by blood or simply because you adore each other.
Yesterday, I met a dear friend for breakfast, which we have done at least once a month for the past several years (although over the past year, due to the pandemic, we weren’t able to…we’ve both been vaccinated now so our once monthly get-together is back on. We are responsible though and continue to wear our masks). As I was leaving her company, I told her that I loved her (as I always do) because over the years, we’ve become more than just friends. We’ve become family. She’s the sister I always wanted.
The mistress of this blogsite is also the sister I’ve always wanted. There are others, too—brothers and sisters of my heart (I am indeed blessed!)
After that amazing breakfast, my DH and I went to a small birthday celebration for the ninety-year old matriarch of a very special family. Again, neither my DH and I are related to this group by blood, but we are welcomed and loved as if we were nevertheless. It’s both humbling and exhilarating – a bond that is almost deeper than blood, an acceptance of who I am and the joy of knowing that I am loved for me and not because they have to. I feel the same about them. The hardest part right now is not being able to hug…we are making do with elbow bumps though (I miss the hugging…I'm a hugger by nature and this family gives the best hugs!)
I’ve noticed that in the stories I write, friends generally become family because, in life, that’s what we do. We gather people close and keep them close. I truly believe humans are not meant to be alone. We want company. We desire communication and touch—a hug, a kiss on the cheek between old friends, a pat on the back, the simple act of holding someone’s hand or helping them in some small way (as I did yesterday, when I had the privilege to help a very young at heart woman cross the street).
Some of us are quite lucky in that regard, whether our companions are other people or a member of the animal kingdom. I know I am and I’m thankful every day for the special “family” in my life.
Stay well! Stay safe! And remember to spread kindness wherever you go!

Excerpt from One Enchanted Evening by Anna Harrington

“There’s nothing to tell you about my marriage, Mason,” Nora told him. “Honestly. Davenport and I had a typical society marriage.”

“You call your husband by his title and never by anything more endearing, which leads me to believe that there was no love between you.”

She started to argue, then changed her mind and sighed heavily. “As I said,” she admitted, “it was a typical society marriage.”

He expected her to pull her hand away. Instead, she slowly laced her fingers through his.

“It was a troubled marriage, in all aspects,” she explained quietly, staring down the hill at Emmeline. Not because she was worried about the little girl playing by herself, he knew, but because she didn’t want her voice to carry on the breeze and risk Emmeline overhearing. “Our parents wanted the match, and we had grown up as fond acquaintances. But we never really loved each other beyond friendship.” She brought his hand into her lap and focused her attention on it, tracing a fingertip over the lines of his palm. “When I failed to give him a son and heir, it stopped being even that. By the end, it was nearly unbearable.”

“You said he had a temper.” Acid covered his tongue as he dared to ask, “Did he strike you and Emmeline?”

“Never.” Then more softly, her shoulders sinking, “There are other ways to hurt people.”

He reached out to tuck a stray strand of chestnut hair behind her ear. “Nora, please believe that—”

“And you?” The falsely bright smile she flashed at him belied the pain he felt churning inside her. He wanted to dissolve away that pain for her forever. “Why are you not married with a dozen or so children running around?”

He laughed at the idea. “A dozen?”

“Or so.”

“God forbid!” Yet he answered, perhaps a bit too honestly, “Who would want to marry me, a curmudgeonly businessman who hates parties, soirees, the entire London season—everything unmarried women love? Or so I’ve been told.” Repeatedly. By every other woman he’d ever called on…until Nora and Emmeline entered his life. “Besides, I have Brutus to keep me company.”

She slid her gaze down the hill to the hound and frowned. “What kind of dog is he, exactly?”

“Part poodle, part retriever, part…something.” He shrugged a shoulder. “A mongrel like me.”

“You’re not at all like that. And I don’t think you’re curmudgeonly either. You’re an incredibly fine man.” She paused, her lips parting thoughtfully as she turned her head to study him. “You remind me of…”

Please God, don’t say your husband!

“Of a dessert my family’s French cook used to make when I was a little girl.”

He blinked, surprised, then grimaced “Thank you.”

“A caramelized custard she called burnt cream. Crusty on the outside—”

“Thank you,” he repeated dryly.

She gave a lilting laugh that hung on the air like music. Then her smile faded as she lifted her hand to brush at the short hair at his temple, her touch strangely both comforting and arousing.

“Yet soft and sweet on the inside.” She breathed out as she caressed his cheek, her eyes falling to his mouth, “One that always left me craving more.” She smiled a bit sadly. “Even though I knew it wasn’t good for me.”

Before he could argue, she leaned forward and kissed him.
