More Sunday Afternoon Musings....

Well, here we are again, another beautiful Sunday afternoon in sunny Arizona. All my Sunday chores are done and I’m ready to write my blog post for Wednesday (‘cause, you know, I was a girl scout and believe in being prepared)….and therein lies my problem.
I HAVE NO TOPIC!!!  Nothing!  (See picture...this is what I do when I can't think of a subject!)
I don’t think this has ever happened to me before….I always come up with something. Yeah, I might procrastinate and not write until Tuesday night (in a panic because 1) the topic was elusive and 2) I need to post for the following day) and I might have several false starts on several different things I wanted to discuss but I can usually come up with an entertaining (well, I hope it’s entertaining) subject.
I can do this. After all, I talk to complete strangers on the elevator and you, dear reader, are no stranger….we’ve visited before.
So here I sit, my fingers resting on the keys on home row (I took typing classes in High School), my nails clicking on said keys, ready to start writing and yet, my mind is devoid of a single thing. The cursor is blinking—Blink. Blink. Blink—urging me to think faster, reminding me that I need to WRITE SOMETHING!
Now, when I’m working on one of my stories and I come to a place where the words just aren’t coming and the brain has frozen, I can jump ahead to write a future scene. You’ve heard of pantsers and plotters, right? Well, I’m a puzzler. I write the scenes as they come to me and then I puzzle them together and hope everything makes sense….which is why I’ve already written the Big Black Moment as well as the epilogue on my current work even though I am nowhere near those places. They came to me so they were written. It works for me for the most part although I can’t tell you how many times I’ve ruthlessly deleted those scenes because the story took a different turn.
Hey, will you look at that? A complete blog post. How do you suppose I accomplished that with no topic? Well, I guess it just goes to prove that I can talk about anything...even if it's nothing.

As always, happy reading!
Marie

  1. Too funny! That's what an author is told- keep writing no matter what comes out:)
