Hello, gentle readers! Hope you are all well and staying safe!
Well, my company has gone home and the house is once more quiet. I’m back to my routine, which was totally thrown to the wind while my son and daughter-in-law were here (they kinda blow in like a hurricane and I am tired. Hahahaha! Even the dogs slept the entire day they went home).
It’s all good though.
It was a lovely visit and really perked up the DH’s spirits, for which I am grateful. Perked up mine, too. We did a lot of things the DH and I don’t normally do. We’re homebodies. They definitely are not. My daughter-in-law is the type of person who doesn’t sit still (I understand that…I don’t sit still very often. I’m always doing something around the house). She likes finding things to do and going to places that are a bit out of the ordinary. And those things and places are always fun. She says she’s building memories and she is.
My son and I made a huge batch of spaghetti sauce (with meatballs and sausage, which they took home with them. We also made lasagna. Yum!). That was his request because he didn’t remember all the steps (it’s a process and very time consuming) and he wanted to be able to make it in the future. We had a lot of fun doing it (he took pictures of all the steps). While we did that, the DH and our daughter-in-law sat on the back patio and just…talked. A lot. He enjoyed that very much.
I’m not sure if I’ve said it to anyone here, but I adore my daughter-in-law and have from the very first moment we met (when you know, you know. We’d be friends even if she wasn’t married to my son). She’s kind. Sweet. Compassionate. Intelligent. Beautiful in both her looks and her heart. She also has a backbone made of steel. I admire her for that. I, too, have that backbone! Sometimes, it’s the only thing we have to get us through the tough times. That, and stubbornness can overcome just about anything.
She’s very much like the heroines I write. They’re all strong, stubborn women with very definite ideas about who they are and what they want, yet they lead with kindness. And love. A lot of love.
Speaking of strong heroines, I need to get back to Wife Unexpected. I’m a little behind on word count but it’s fine (the words have been percolating in my head). I wouldn’t have given up this visit for anything in the world.
Stay well! Stay safe! And remember to spread kindness wherever you go!
Marie
