Veronica Reviews - TEMPTING FATE by Kerrigan Byrne

Tempting Fate

(Goode Girls #4)

Kerrigan Byrne

5+ Stars

Historical Romance

“When he was near, when he touched her…she didn’t feel so hollow.  She could believe that she possessed courage.  He made her brave.”

From the first moment he sensed her presence…from the first glance into her angelic face…from the first time he saved her from harm, Gabriel Sauvageau finally knew peace.  Broken and disfigured from years of torment and torture in the fighting pits, Gabriel has only known how to bring pain and death to those who dare attack what he considers his…and Felicity Goode may not realize it, but she has most certainly been claimed…

Anxious, broken, hollow, weak…these words are on constant repeat in Felicity’s mind.  Never being as strong as her twin, she is even less so now that her twin married and is currently traveling with her husband.  Felicity knows she must continue on without her sister by her side, and after an attack on her life, she must acquire a bodyguard.  But just the thought of meeting with strangers has her anxiety elevated to the point she feels a panic attack on the rise…until she bumps into a mountain of a man…one whose very presence brings her a sense of peace.  Felicity immediately offers this beastly of a man the job…her very own avenging angel…

Love always has a way of finding broken souls and mending them together…Gabriel and Felicity’s romance is one of true acceptance…of true love…of a tale as old as time…

*SOBBING*

Dear Reader, I DID NOT WANT THIS STORY TO END!

That being said, I wish I had read it slower…much, much slower in order to savor each delicious bit of Gabriel…but alas, I devoured Tempting Fate in one day.  If you are new to the Goode Girl series, I’d recommend reading in order to better enjoy the characters.  However, if you are a fan of the Beauty & the Beast storyline, you’ll LOVE LOVE LOVE this installment, and will most likely go back and read the other installments for more snippets of my (yes, MINE!) beloved Gabriel!  Highly recommend & wish I could give more than 5 Stars!!

Mercy Goode is a strong willed and intelligent woman and deemed overly much by would be suiters.  Beyond caring what the ton thinks of her and her opinions, Mercy does what she pleases, and currently, it’s playing amateur detective determining who murdered a friend of hers.  Having a penchant for attracting trouble, Mercy is discovered at the scene of the crime and becomes accosted and arrested by the local authorities.  But she swiftly discovers she’s not alone, and is somewhat rescued by a man whose very presence sets her soul on fire…Raphael Sauvageau…

Raphael Sauvageau has been drawn to Mercy Goode since the first day they met, and finding her being struck and injured by another has his blood raging seeking vengeance.  Although he finds himself intrigued to find her investigating the same crime, Raphael knows he must set her aside to keep his promise to his brother.  But Mercy is like no other he’s ever encountered, and he must have her…at any price…for any length of time he has left on this earth…

Mercy and Raphael are fire and ice dancing along a dangerous path to discover who killed their mutual friend…will Mercy finally find the man willing to love her just as she is…will Raphael finally find redemption in Mercy’s arms…or will fate spin the wheel denying them whatever chance they could have found loving one another…

WOWZA!  Another home run for Kerrigan Byrne!  While the third in the series, this story could be read stand alone.  However, I would recommend reading in order to better understand the characters.  Now, let’s get to the next installment to the Goode Girls, because I already know I’m going to be head over heels in love with Gabriel!!!  Give it to me now!

Veronica Reviews~ THE DEVIL IN HER BED by Kerrigan Byrne

The Devil in Her Bed

Devil You Know Book 3

by

Kerrigan Byrne

3.5 Stars

Historical Romance

“I want you.  I’ve always wanted you…Whatever souls are made of, yours and mine are the same…”

Francesca Cavendish, Countess of Mont Claire, has been plotting her revenge against those that killed her friends, her family, and her first love.  The secrets of the Crimson Council are about to come to light, and Francesca will finally have her vengeance.  But there is just one snag to her plan…the Devil of Dorset also has plans of his own to bring the Crimson Council to their knees, and he’s not about to let Francesca deter him off course…even if she is the one person he’s loved above all others and perhaps the only being that could be the balm to soothe his darkened soul.  But when lies and truths start blurring together and secrets long thought buried are dug up, Francesca and her Devil will have to come to terms with their past if they want any chance of a future…

The Devil in her Bed is the conclusion to the Red Rogues trilogy.  Yes, yes, I understand it’s the Devil you Know series, but I prefer to think of these stories as three friends that forged a bond so strong it allowed them to defy all odds in order to find their happily ever after.  Alex’s story was my fav and if you’ve not read, go forth and one click!  While I loved Francesca’s badass persona, I found myself a little disappointed in her hero.

Personally, I was having a hard time with Chandler’s character throughout the book.  At times he acted like a petulant child having a temper tantrum when things were not going his way, and it felt as if he was always trying to put Francesca in “time out”.  And when her secret is revealed, he completely goes off the deep end, and if I was her, I’d have kicked his butt to the curb.  Bye, bye, bye!  But, that’s me…

Byrne’s romances are always a must-read, and while this wasn’t my fav, it was still a satisfying tale filled with intrigue, vengeance, and passion.  Would recommend to fans of this genre!

Historical/Paranormal Romance (Novella)

Stranded in the middle of the wilds of the Scottish Highlands during

a blizzard, Vanessa Latimer is half frozen and agrees to stay in the only offered room at the inn…one that just happens to be haunted…

Johnathan de Lohr, once a decorated soldier and earl, lost his life in the battle of Culloden.  After over a hundred years, he is still at a loss how his spirit became trapped in an inn he never visited.  With the holiday solstice, Johnathan once again awakens, but this time there is a beautiful woman in the room…one that may be the very woman he’s waited for his entire existence…

Vanessa and Johnathan are soulmates that sadly didn’t have a chance to discover each other in one life…but perhaps a Christmas miracle will allow true love to find a way…

Kerrigan Byrne is on my auto read list!  This holiday short was so whimsically romantic and verra smexxy that I immediately started reading it over when I got to The End.  Loved and highly recommend!
