Dawn Kunda - New Release and Giveaway!

“Have you killed anyone?”  Swedish chemist Alina Runesson feared his answer.  Men have died for her.

“Not today.”  CIA Agent Vic Grant responded callously.  Women were not part of his agenda.

It’s hard to admit they have a connection called love and have to trust it’s not fatal.

It’s fabulous to be back on a Sunday, which means I have a new release!

Kiss the Killer, the second novel in the series From the CIA is available in ebook right now.  The paperback is scheduled for July, and I will let you know what day as soon as I find out.

I’m really excited about writing a series for several reasons.  I like to write with multi-layered plots and a series can have a lot of sub-plots.  The first novel, Inked, started in Cairo, Egypt with a lot of characters who will appear at some point in following books, and the plots will thicken.  Kiss the Killer (MF)

Vic Grant is the first character I extracted from Inked and he has a ton of work to do in Kiss the Killer. Not to mention that he accidentally finds a lovely and intelligent chemist, Alina Runesson, who batters his heart from the first chance meeting.

In  addition to having so many intriguing characters to draw from, I get to play around with many European, Scandinavian, and Middle East countries.  The different topography, customs, and habits of the people add difficulty and surprises to the CIA agents involved.

How long will the series be?  I have a lot of agents to uncover, so the number of books is limitless.  I do have a clue as to what will happen in the finale and which agent will be my hero.  I’ve already found that “he” is a character readers are asking to see again.  My mind can change when readers tell me what they’re interested in, so it’s always great to hear from you!

Leave a comment or question and win a copy of Kiss the Killer (From the CIA 2) in ebook format!

For your reading pleasure…An excerpt.

Alina wanted to scratch herself or feel pain in a subtle way to tell her she wasn’t involved in an espionage or thriller movie. [MHM1] Her surroundings held no familiarity, even less than her new home, and this relaxed man sitting within arm’s reach was planning to act on a script six feet deep with terrorism, government leaders, and what sounded like it could turn into an all-out war between nations.

She felt her heart thumping against its space under the ribs and silently beseeched it to hang in there and not cause her to flop to the floor in an active heart attack. To think the one day she went out of her safe zone, which mostly included her new house and a few necessity stores, she runs into some type of agent, maybe a spy, or who knew what else he hadn’t revealed yet. Were all men who went out for a bite to eat connected to a world she barely had an inkling that it existed, and she’d never played a role in? Was a seduction the first play of the game every time? Did they all have big guns, a controlling manner, and a powerful body to sway them into their bed? It had been her bed, so he must be even better at it than most, if she was right.

“…Shehata will get us into Iraq with an escort.”

She’d missed the first part of his explanation as her mind reviewed how she ended up sitting across from this…man who has international connections. Was he some kind of spy, or undercover agent? He mentioned the CIA. Really? “Can you repeat the last part?” She needed to know the plan because there was no way she would accompany this man along with Egyptian guards to terrorism at its finest. She’d cooperate, and then find a way out to do it on her own.

“Why don’t I retell you in the morning when you’ve rested? Four-thirty.”

He probably thought she was too tired and stressed to listen. That would work for her. “You’re right. I’m having a hard time focusing. I’m sure your plan is good and will work.” She honored him with a meeting of the eyes and saw a fatigued droop to his eyelids, yet a spark of energy ignited somewhere deep inside. He meant whatever he had said and she was sure he’d take her on this mission with a definite resolve to get work done. Maybe he was using her for something bigger.

He bent over to pick up her cup. His sleeves had been pushed up his arm at some point. Muscles pulsed and changed shape along his forearm, for God’s sake. That brought her straight back to their first night. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to appreciate the perfection of his form. Without clothes on, it only got better. His organizational skills and energy made a cool drink on a hot day a paltry excuse for relief.

If he wasn’t a madman with an ulterior motive to use her, he equaled perfection. This reminder came like a Novocain shot to the mouth. She’d have none of that in her life again. She’d run fast and far to avoid another dance with the perfect. Once was enough and perfection would never last a lifetime.

His back faced her and exposed his slightly loose jeans forming to the muscles on his thighs. He turned his torso to speak to her. “Your room is at the end of the hall. I’m sure you won’t have a problem finding it.”

“Right. No problem.”

Down the hall with her bag in tow, she stepped into the room. Her glance lasted a few seconds and covered anything worth noting. The bed looked unused with the blanket stretched tight to all four corners. She wasn’t sure the thin material would weather the drafty feel in the back of the apartment. Wearing clothes would be helpful plus she could get up and leave if the mood struck her.

She had wisely packed a pair of pajamas complete with line drawings of scattered sheep. Llamas hadn’t been in vogue during her minimalistic shopping trip. Dressing in farm animals would definitely keep Vic uninterested. She had mainly bought them because they appealed to her at the time. Normally, she wore nothing to bed. She had always liked the feel of clean sheets against her skin, but not tonight and not until she was home alone again.

She calculated their time away in accordance with the week the veterinarian had promised to watch Gerty. Getting Christa home in a week would be victory in her mental healing, and she looked forward to returning to the quiet and stable life of a scientist alone with her compounds. This nearly pleasant thinking could give her a successful start at a few hours of sleep.

No one would chase her. No one would find her. No one would kill her.

Happy Summer Reading,
Dawn

Flirting With Felicity by Gerri Russell

Flirting with Felicity is a delightful story of a little kindness goes a long way.

Felicity Wright has taken her passion of cooking to a grand level as the head chef of an historical hotel’s restaurant.  She’s a people pleaser and loves the fact that she’s able to support herself and her father who needs hourly nursing due to a head injury from a car accident.

Her main concern is living her life and taking care of her father.  Nothing can change her mind on her responsibilities.

The day the owner of the hotel dies, she’s utterly surprised that he left the hotel in her name.  She hadn’t realized she knew the man.

Everything should be peaches and cream after her inheritance.

In walks Blake Bancroft, the former owner’s nephew and owner of the rest of the chain of related hotels and restaurants.  He’s handsome, he’s kind, he’s ultra-rich, and he wants the restaurant.

Felicity can’t fight Blake’s high power attorneys, so he makes a deal with her.

The deal includes spending a lot of time together and keeping the unwanted hormones in check.

I had fun reading this and chuckling at Felicity’s and Blake’s attempts to keep all things business because we well know that the heart has a mind of its own!  Not only that, but it’s a maze of considerations for both to be happy with the end result in business and love.

Gerri Russell also treats her readers to a collection of Felicity’s recipes.  I did try the homemade mac and cheese.  It was as rewarding as the storyJ

Happy reading,

Dawn

Toying Around with You and a Giveaway!

We have a special guest here at Happily Ever After Thoughts today, Carolyn with Passion Parties! Why is she special? Because she has an expertise and a giveaway we’ve never had on our blog. This is an over 18 blog, so get ready for some straight talk about sex toys. And don’t forget to enter the rafflecopter for some super hot massage lotion ;-) Take it away, Carolyn!

Why do women love sex toys?  The reasons are many and varied because we women are many and varied too! They can help discover or increase the ability to orgasm, complement or enhance fantasies (ooo...maybe while reading one of Lexi’s books!), and spark communication with a partner. And the #1 reason to use toys: toys are FUN, as toys should be and sex toys do things people can’t: revolve, vibrate, bend and twirl. WOW!

Massage and/or vibration bring blood to an area and makes it more sensitive to touch.  Since most women require quite a bit more stimulation to achieve orgasm, adding a sex toy to foreplay can significantly shorten the duration. Compare a slow cooker to a microwave oven: most women need about 20-minutes of foreplay compared to most men needing about 5 minutes. See where “evening up the play field” will benefit both?  Even women who are “flying solo” will benefit from orgasms...the body doesn’t care how it is achieved, as long as it gets it.

Remember the famous sex toy episode from “Sex and the City”? The “rabbit” is probably the most popular style vibrator because it has both a shaft and a clitoral stimulator. The rabbit was the clitoral design used by the first developers but it merely refers to any toy that has that feature, which could be any animal, bird, butterfly or just a simple appendage with no design.  The shaft might have a built-in vibrating bullet or two, or it might have beads that turn.  The clitoral stimulator usually vibrates but can also have many adjustments for pulses and escalations to create whatever combination is preferred.

Unfortunately, toys do not lube back, so be sure to use personal lubricant with toys because wetter is better; use only water-based lubes with silicone toys (I promote water-based lubes for everyone and every toy).  For health reasons and the health of the toys, use a toy cleanser that has been specially created to clean them; plain water won’t clean them thoroughly, alcohol will damage the surface of many toys, and soap can leave a residue that will transfer to a woman’s insides and we know how THAT feels in the morning!

There's no disputing that orgasms feel good.  Sex toys can provide better, stronger, longer orgasms, which is a good thing.

Recipe for Writing

I’m not the world’s best cook, but there are a few dishes I make that are pretty decent, if I do say so myself. Some things, I’ve been making for years….like my Grandmother’s cheesecake…and know the recipe (yes, there is a real recipe for this) by heart. I don’t even have to look at what I wrote on paper all those years ago.
I also make my Mother-in-law’s stuffing for my Thanksgiving turkey. She gave me the recipe over the phone (she was in New Jersey, I was here in Phoenix). She didn’t measure….why would she have to? She’d been making this stuffing for thirty-plus years. It’s a pinch of this and a sprinkle of that and a couple stalks of celery all chopped up and 2 large onions or maybe it should be 3 small onions finely minced, add water (or chicken broth) until it’s sloppy (took me years to figure out sloppy, but I did it). For her, it was a matter of looking right and tasting right.

Over Memorial Day weekend, I made a big batch of spaghetti sauce (yes, with meatballs and sausages…I also read my finished manuscript out loud while this sauce simmered) and I was thinking as I was pouring ground pepper into the palm of my hand that I don’t measure either. At all. It looks right. Or it smells right. Or tastes right (my DH is the official taste-tester, but when my son lived at home, he was an official tester, too). I would be hard pressed to write down the recipe for my sauce although I have tried to for my son….I came to the conclusion, he’ll just have to watch me do it.
Which brings me to my writing. As with cooking, I have no recipe. I start with my hero or heroine (depends on which one is talking to me the loudest). If I’m lucky, he or she will tell me their story. Notice I say IF I’m lucky because it doesn’t always happen this way. Sometimes, I only get hints of my characters or the setting or the story, but if I mix it all together with a little of this for adventure, a little of that for romance, I might get something that’s not a recipe for disaster like some of the concoctions I’ve tried over the years.
What about you? Do you have a favorite recipe you like to make (that is, when you’re not reading).

As always, happy reading!
Marie
