Christmas 2019

Hello, gentle readers!
Christmas is right around the corner! Can you believe it?  Wasn't it just July 4? It seems that the older I get, the faster the year seems to fly by. Pretty soon, it’ll be 2020! Wow!
I have not put up my tree yet (but I did at the day job as well as decorated our cubbies). It’s very festive. I generally wait until the Saturday before the holiday. I have a small living room so it requires moving furniture, which makes the living room feel smaller. Still, I love decorating the tree. My DH and I put on holiday music, have some eggnog (sometimes with spirits! Whooo-hooo) and decorate to our hearts' content! When my son was very young (before age 6), the DH and I decorated on Christmas Eve, after he was in bed. He thought Santa brought the tree as well as the presents...until we were caught. After that, decorating was a family affair.
I have a lot of special ornaments...some my son made years ago when he was in school, some he and I made together, and a lot that were given to me as gifts. I no longer have room on the tree for store bought ornaments and that's fine. I'm not one to load the tree with stuff anyway...for me, less is more. Of course, we can't forget the twinkling lights or the garland (I tried tinsel once...it was pretty, but I was picking up tinsel for months afterward!).
My DH and I do not exchange gifts. We’ve been together for 40 years so if we want something, we just get it. I think this year, I’m going to get myself…a new vacuum cleaner (yes, I have budgeted for this). I know it’s not the thing everyone wants for Christmas, but I do. I currently have a Dirt Devil, which I really like; however, it seems to get heavier and heavier every time I use it so I’m looking for something a little more lightweight. It has to pick up though. I have fur babies (two big German Shepherds) so that means I have dog hair (they shed constantly!) I’ve been looking at a Eureka with all the lovely attachments! I know. I dream big, don’t I?
So, what do I wish for you this holiday season, gentle readers? I wish you joy and peace of mind. I wish you the warmth of good friendships. And I wish you time to do the things you want to do (like read a good book!).

Until next time, remember to spread kindness wherever you go. And Merry Christmas!

Christmas Spirits or Christmas Cowboys? That is the question.

If you're more of a paranormal romance fan, then you'll probably choose the Scottish Christmas Carol series. It features the Spirits of Past (Duncan and Jessica), Present (Ian and Coco), and Future (Malcolm and Joy), and the young widow Holly that they visit.

If you're more of a contemporary romance reader, then you'll probably prefer the start of the Last Chance series, Christmas with Angel, when Lacey's horse's former abusive owner decides to pay a visit on Christmas day. Or you might prefer the start of the Broken Valor series, When Love Chimes, as Lynzie receives a Christmas proposal she just can't accept, no matter how much she wants to.

No matter which side of reality you prefer, these stories will definitely get down to the true meaning of Christmas. After all, what's more Christmasy than love?

Excerpt from One Woman Only: "May I have this dance?" Kelly turned at the sound of Jonah's voice behind her. Dinner had ended. All three of the boys had given best man speeches and Eve had even given a very creditable matron of honor speech, considering she had only known Marilyn and Caleb a short time. Lots of toasts had been raised and finally the live band had struck up the music. Caleb led his bride onto the floor for a foxtrot—a dance more than half of the guests had no idea how to do, including her. Facing Jonah she sighed inwardly at how scrumptious he looked. Sure, his face was pretty much displayed on his brothers' heads, too, but there was something different about Jonah. His nose was just a little crooked from when Bobby Hendricks had broken it in ninth grade and his eyes held an especially bright sparkle when he smiled. Maybe… Well, she didn't know what caused the difference between Jonah and his brothers. Whatever it was, she had never been fooled by the so-called identical nature of the identical triplets. She'd wanted to be his girl since elementary school. Thought she would be in high school. And then she’d forced every last thought of him from her mind from senior year on. Until now. "I don't know how to foxtrot." He shrugged. "Who does except those over fifty?" He glanced at his folks, still alone on the dancefloor, although a few couples were wandering out to join them now. "We can pretend." She mentally compared standing on the sidelines alone now that Mama Rio left the party, or being held in Jonah's arms. Smiling, Kelly held out her hands. "Just don't step on my toes, Jonah Goodman, or there'll be hell to pay." "Yes, ma'am." Together they walked onto the dancefloor. He took her right hand in his left and placed his right hand on her waist. Fortunately for them, the music changed to a slow tempo. Kelly laid her head on Jonah's shoulder, and he tugged her closer as they swayed to the music. "This is nice," he murmured. "Yes it is," she replied. So very nice. He smelled good. Beneath the light citrus fragrance of his aftershave was a slight whiff of pure man with maybe a twinge of motor oil or something so Jonah it brought tears to her eyes. He rubbed a path up to her shoulder blades and gave a squeeze. "You fit me perfectly, Kelly." "I do?" "You sure do. I think our hearts can feel each other beat." Kelly chuckled. "Smooth talker. Face to face like this our hearts are on opposite sides." "Hey! I'm trying to be romantic here." She sighed. "Keep on. It's appreciated." "You smell…good." She felt his smile. Raising her head she gave him a mock glare. "Watch it with those pregnant pauses, buster." He used his hand to press her head back to his shoulder. "You do smell good, though. This isn't the same perfume you wore in high school. That was—" "Lilac," they said at the same time. Once more she raised her head to look at him. "How did you remember that?" "I remember much more than you might think." He turned her and moved her closer to the door onto the patio. "Each spring when lilacs are in bloom memories come flooding back. Does that surprise you?" "More like shocks me," she said, grinning. And then she laid her head on his shoulder once more, finding she liked it more and more there in his arms. She stepped slightly closer and his arm tightened about her. "Well, after a while I thought lilac seemed too girlish. I like the vintage scents, so in college I wore Wind Song. Then Shalimar was the scent Brad liked me to wear." She felt Jonah stiffen when she mentioned her ex, and really she didn't blame him. "But when I grew up enough finally to take charge of my own life, I started wearing Chanel No 5. A complex fragrance for what I hope is a complex woman." "It suits you. Complex and beautiful." He kissed her temple. "Want to step outside for a minute?" "Sure. It is a little warm in here." On the patio, they could hear the sounds of the people from the television networks packing up equipment, chatting and laughing. Stars shone brightly in the clear night sky. Wood smoke from someone's fireplace wafted through the air and static electricity fairly crackled in the crispness of the autumn air. "This is my favorite time of year," Kelly said. "The heat of summer is gone and winter nights curled up with a hot drink and blazing fire are ahead." "Not me. I'm a summer boy all the way." "A hothead you mean?" she teased. "Oh, I'm hot all right." He waggled his brows at her. Kelly laughed. "I do seem to remember that about you." "You used to be pretty hot yourself. Still are." He leaned in. His eyes flicked down to her lips. Kelly sucked in a breath. She should stop him, she really should.
About the Author: A few years ago, Dee S. Knight began writing, making getting up in the morning fun. During the day, her characters killed people, fell in love, became drunk with power, or sober with responsibility. And they had sex, lots of sex. Writing was so much fun Dee decided to keep at it. That's how she spends her days. Her nights? Well, she's lucky that her dream man, childhood sweetheart, and long-time hubby are all the same guy, and nights are their secret. Veronica Reviews: BAD BOY BIKER BOOTS by Brynn Paulin

Bad Boy Biker Boots
(The Bad Boys Book 1)
by Brynn Paulin

5 Stars

“Hello, Cinderella.  It’s nice to meet you…but before you kiss me again, you should know I’m not Prince Charming.”

Stood up at a dive bar, Louisa is not about to let the “mean girls” think they have beaten her.  With all the confidence she can muster, Louisa walks over to the verra hawt biker she’s been watching play pool all evening and kisses him.  Beyond shocked at her own boldness, Louisa is even more shocked when “Biker Boots” returns her kiss…and offers her a ride home.

Dodge can’t believe his luck.  The beautiful blonde he’s thought of as one of the Disney princesses his niece is so fond of just walked over and kissed him.  Not one to pass up a challenge, Dodge rescues his damsel and offers to take her home…but she should know in advance, he’s all in, and in his arms, she’ll be loved like no other.

Prepare to meet your next book boyfriend in tattoo artist/bad boy biker, Dodge.  The author has told a smexxy insta-love story that will keep the pages turning and leave you begging for more!

Usually, I don’t give novellas 5 Stars because I feel the story is never quite developed enough, but Brynn Paulin manages to pack quite the punch in her erotic short Bad Boy Biker Boots, and I absolutely loved every second of the ride!  Highly recommend and look forward to the next installment to her Bad Boys series!

Sharing what I love,

Thanksgiving Leftovers

Hello, gentle readers!
Well, Thanksgiving is over. All the cleaning and prep work, and all the baking, made for a lovely holiday, even if it was low-key for us this year (DH was not only sick, but he threw his back out as well, and truthfully, I was feeling a little punky, too. Didn’t want to risk anyone else becoming ill). I did make dinner, just on a much smaller scale than I usually do (love those leftovers! Had my first turkey sandwich of the season…I like it simple, just turkey and a little mayo on a King’s Hawaiian roll…sort of a turkey slider, if you will). My DH thought it was funny that I had already figured out what I would have for breakfast the day after (a big slice of Dutch Apple Pie), even though I was full from dinner!
I had many things to be thankful for this year, as I have for every year preceding this one. I am truly blessed and I count those blessings every day.
I also took some much needed time off (the company I work for has strict rules...you can only roll 40 Paid Time Off hours over to the next year so it’s either use it or lose it). I chose to use it so…
What did I do with my time off aside from cooking and cleaning? I read a little (until my eyes started to hurt) and wrote a little (until I ran out of words) and then…I indulged in my favorite past-time of movie watching.
Can’t tell you of all the movies I sat and watched (or watched while I was doing something else…yeah, I do that. I don’t sit still very well), but it was a restful couple day and I guess I really needed that rest…which is just in time for the Christmas rush.
Hope you all had a wonderful holiday spent with good friends and good food.

Until next time, remember to spread kindness wherever you go.
Marie
