Alone in the Dark by Karen Rose

Another masterpiece by a truly gifted thriller/suspense/romance author!  Her novel may be 700+ pages, but there’s never a dull moment.

Homicide detective Scarlett Bishop is called to a murder and immediately runs into the man she’s been thinking about for the last nine months, Marcus O’Bannion, the local newspaper owner.

It’s obvious why a homicide detective would show up at a murder scene, but why would a newspaper owner be there first and wearing Kevlar?

Everything has a reason and Marcus was trying to help the woman now lying dead at his feet.  Not to mention he’s the one who specifically called Scarlett to the scene because she’s been caught in his dreams for the last nine months, also.

It’s a great trip through the underground as Scarlett works on solving the case.  She allows Marcus to see more than the average newspaper is allowed for reporting purposes, but he has special privileges.

And the extra privileges extend into the bedroom where Scarlett and Marcus have their own mystery to solve about relationships.

I thought the suspense and thriller aspects of the story held great merit and I’ve never been disappointed by one of Rose’s stories.  Plenty of romance littered the pages, granted the conflict between Scarlett and Marcus seemed a bit weak.  Although, if the conflict had kept them apart more, then the hot romance would’ve been less, so either way I consider it a win-win story!

Shiver by Karen Robards

Oh my, I have a Sunday post!  I’m not interviewing an author, but I do have the latest release from Karen Robards of which I have a signed copy.  At the infamous RWA (Romance Writers of America) Nationals, Karen joined Karen Rose and Sharon Sala in a panel devoted to romantic suspense, so I couldn’t help but read one of their books first…

Karen Robard’s newest novel introduces her readers to a determined Samantha Jones who will do anything to assure the safety of her 4-year-old son.  It gets a little difficult when she finds a hard-to-tell-he's quite beat up- handsome stranger shot and locked in the trunk of the Beamer she’s supposed to repo. 

Sam has an unusual job for a young woman, but as a tow-truck driver, she’s making a living.  This all might change when her night of work in East St. Louis turns into a do-or-die as she shoots two men sneaking up on her as she inspects Danny lying in the trunk of the car.

From then on, Danny has to protect himself and Sam and her son from the rest of the drug lords.  And he can’t tell Sam he’s an undercover agent, not just a scoundrel dealing with the drug scene.

Sam is upset with herself as her attraction to Danny creates an unwanted need from a man with such an insidious background.

Danny doesn’t want Sam involved, but what can he do at this point?

Robards shows you what he can do as Sam and Danny collectively outmaneuver their followers to remain alive.

It’s an exciting novel to read as the tension constantly shifts and all the “bad guys” aren’t named until the end.

Review: Die for Me by Karen Rose

Another bestseller from a multi-published romantic suspense author.

Karen Rose is a master at suspense as she constantly keeps the reader guessing who the sadistic and psychotic murderer is, leaving his prey buried in the snow covered fields of Pennsylvania.

Rose has an extended cast of characters beginning with a beautiful, twice bitten archeologist, Sophie, who’s position is to analyze the medieval torture used on the victims. Detective Ciccotelli fights his attraction to the archeologist, yet guards her life, as he mourns the death of a former girlfriend.

The other characters are relatives, business associates, and friends scattered throughout the East coast. Rose does and amazing job of bringing all the issues of the characters to a connected and screaming climax, some dead and a few lucky enough to be alive.

A great novel to stay awake for.
