Wolf Runner by Constance O'Banyon

It was easy to figure out where the story took place, the Midwest from New Mexico to Colorado.  The difficult part was figuring out what century.

The start of the story sounded contemporary, yet it took a hundred pages to assure me that the early 1900’s were a better bet.

Wolf Runner is a hotty Blackfoot Indian, which held me in the story.  I say this because I’m highly impressed and interested in the Indian culture, yet I’m not a historian and the failure to let me know as a reader what time frame the story covered left me wondering.

Wolf Runner is a half-breed and is ordered by his family to help Cheyenne, who is also a half-breed left to herself after her adoptive grandmother passes.

They both wear contemporary clothing, vehicles exist, what years I’m not sure, and later (after the first hundred or so pages again) Wolf Runner and Cheyenne ride horses from New Mexico to Colorado.

I very much enjoyed the last half of the book when Wolfy and Cheyenne are able to meet and have to ride horses far and long through the wilderness with nothing but each other and the landscape to survive by.  This half of the book was seductive, genuine, and full of romantic tension.

I’m glad I didn’t put it down, but the beginning confused me and Wolf Runner and Cheyenne didn’t meet till long in the story.  The first hundred pages are necessary to understand the conflicts, yet to summarize them in two or three chapters would’ve brought us into the romance and story a lot faster and with more satisfaction.

Happy reading,

Routines & Schedules

I am a creature of habit, as you already know. I admit that freely, knowing there’s no way to deny it. I live by my little routines and schedules, especially during the work week (I write in the mornings during the work week). I won’t bore you with all the details but it’s the only way to get everything done that I need to get done and don’t ask me why I need to get all these things done….I just do…..I know, I’m weird like that.
I tend to park in the same place when I go to the mall or grocery shopping (and yes, I pick up my groceries at the same two stores I’ve been frequenting for the past 20some years) *Sigh* I even like using the same pump at the gas station (Oh my gosh, I just realized how odd and kinda sad that is). That’s not to say I can’t use another pump….I can….I’d just rather use the one I like.
As you can see, I’m not much for adventure (I’d rather read and write about it than live it, which is, again, kinda sad too). Adventure just isn’t in my schedule.
What, you may ask, will break this routine-oriented, schedule-driven person out of her habits (which isn’t easy)? A spontaneous outing with my DH. An unexpected phone call or visit from a friend. Plans that have nothing to do with cleaning or cooking or working the day job such as a fun shopping day--even if I don’t buy anything….really, I’m happy to window shop….it’s the company I’m with that counts more than anything, although, it doesn’t hurt if I can find that perfect skirt or sweater. A breakfast, lunch or dinner date with a friend and a chance to catch up.
What else breaks me out of my routine? A good book. For a good book, I will smash my routine to pieces and let the dishes pile up in the sink. For a good book, I will forget about making dinner and just order a pizza. For a good book, I will even (gasp!) forego sleep (and I am already sleep deprived, like most of you)!
What about you? Do you have schedules and routines and die-hard habits. And what book would you recommend to make me lose sleep and forget about laundry?

As always, happy reading!

Cowboys Never Fold by Lexi Post

Let’s open the new year with a sure hit in romance, Cowboys Never Fold by our classic erotic romance author, Lexi Post!

A buff and handsome cowboy, Wade Johnson, is sent on a job at Kendra Lowe’s soon-to-open nudist resort.  Wade has no intentions of taking his clothes off, but rather he investigates why Kendra’s former horse managers abruptly leave the establishment.

Kendra, a former poker expert, has no intentions of taking her clothes off either.  She’s intent on opening a successful business.

Wade has a hard time keeping his mind on the job between sabotages on the business, a list of suspects, and no reason for former employees to quit.  Kendra’s sexy transformation into a cowgirl-with clothes on-distracts the mission…for both of them.Cowboys Never Fold

This novella is packed full of conflicts and concerns for Kendra’s business, coupled by the immediate lust between Wade and Kendra.  Lust that turns to love I must sayJ

It’s amazing how many times and variations of intense love-making Wade and Kendra invent and while they’re trying to solve the mystery surrounding the resort!

Sometimes mixing business and pleasure can make a person extremely happy.  Cowboys Never Fold is a grand and fantastic story not to be missed from your book shelf or virtual library!

Happy reading,

Cruise of a Lifetime: Day 11 – Valetta, Malta

A friend of mine spent fifteen years living on Malta and suggested we see the fortresses of Medina and Valetta, but by time we reached this beautiful place, we had seen so many buildings that we decided to try a different type of excursion, one that kept us closer to the water.

The cruise ship came into port for sunrise and we enjoyed the amazing walled city of Valetta from the sea.

Next we boarded a bus and made are way past the only airport to a sightseeing stop. What we didn’t realize was that the sight was the Blue Grotto, the very place we would be experiencing on the water. To be honest, it was a tad intimidating from up above.

We finally made it down to the little boats and headed out to view the Blue Grotto. The caves were a bit eerie at first and loomed large compared to our little boat.
The darkness though gave way as the sun shone on the water and the blue was spectacular! It was like we were boating in a pool!

After our water excursion, which we enjoyed immensely, we traveled by bus to the town of Marsaxlokk which was one of two fishing villages on Malta.

The day we were there it was the weekly market, but we found this beautiful church more interesting, especially the statue of Mary in a boat that graced the top.

We had a bit of lunch and then traveled back to the port. On the way, our guide told us about the many towers we had seen throughout the day. These were the Knights of Malta towers and had been used as look outs.

After saying goodbye to Malta, we had a lovely dinner in the main dining room with our usual wait staff who had by the second day come to know our routine. No sooner did we sit down than the wine steward took the wine glasses off the table (we don’t drink wine), the cocktail waitress brought my husband his Jack Daniels and diet, the assistant waiter brought me my pot of tea, and the waitress brought us the menus with recommendations based on what we liked.

The final day of the cruise would be at sea, with plenty of time to pack, so we after dinner went to the show and then did a little dancing of our own. We wanted to make the very most of our second to last night on board :-)

Always, Lexi

Welcome 2015

At the stroke of midnight tonight, it’ll be a brand new year.
I plan on welcoming 2015 in the best way possible….by counting my blessings and being thankful for all the good things in my life.
What am I thankful for? Oh, so much!
Family, first and foremost. I have a husband I adore, a son who is precious to me and the promise of a new daughter-in-law coming into our family (my son is engaged and I’m so thrilled. She’s a wonderful person and I already consider her my daughter)!
Friends, who are just as important as family (and truthfully, are my family). I love them all dearly (I think they love me, too!). What could be better than that?
What else? I am fortunate that I have a good job working with people who are kind and wonderful and generous (and so darned smart!).
I am grateful for my critique partners, who are fabulous in every way possible!
Oh, and I can’t forget my health! I am blessed in that way as well.
I have goals for 2015, too. Not resolutions because those can be broken, but goals that I can strive for and accomplish though some are easier to achieve than others.
Still need to lose those pesky pounds that I try to lose each year (yes, they come back…they miss me) so I will be working on that.
I will continue to try to be kinder and more charitable in my thoughts and actions―a goal I set a few years ago but one that can always use improving…can’t have enough kindness in the world―not only to other people but also to myself (see the above regarding the extra pounds…I give myself a lot of flack over those stubborn pounds).
I will finish my current work in progress then start AND finish another story and I will not give up when the going gets a little tough and the story is fighting me.
I will read more, which gives me so much joy.
And lastly, I will continue to greet each day being thankful.
Have you set goals for 2015? What are they?

As always, happy reading and Happy New Year!
Marie
