Update on "To Be Read" pile

A while back, I lamented the fact that my TBR pile had reached untold heights and was quickly overtaking my little house. I am happy to report that I am slowly catching up on those untold pleasures (having some extra time while I’m looking for work will do that for you). So, in the last eight days, I have read six books, cover to cover….and now, I can’t seem to get enough. Yes, my eyes are blurry and feel like they’re filled with sand but that’s okay. I love my Kindle though. I can make the type bigger so I can keep on reading.

So what have I read? I finished Caris Roane’s Burning Skies (love how she writes), Terri Brisbin’s Mistress of the Storm (my first one of hers…there will be more), Kathryne Kennedy’s The Lady of the Storm (excellent); Erin Quinn’s Haunting Beauty (beautifully written), Elizabeth Hoyt’s Wicked Intentions and To Seduce a Sinner (both of which I loved) and I just started Stormwalker by Allyson James.

Have I worked on my own books? Not as much as I probably should have (I have a Civil War story I’m working on, but it’s making me pull my hair out) but my TBR pile is shrinking and I am pleased. So, what are you reading? Anything you want to recommend?

As always, happy reading!
Marie

  1. Hi Marie,
Right now I'm reading non-fiction and it's killing me, because I started Mary Connealy's Out of Control and didn't want to stop! Just finished The Bridal Swap by Karen Kirst. The story featured a heroine with a tarnished past who had been abused as a child. Not a typical storyline for the 1890s.

My TBR has grown a lot in the past couple of months, mainly becuase I've been so tied up with my own WIP. Hard to read my fav genre when I'm trying to get my own on paper. I find that distracting. Have a great week!

  2. Hey Marie!
What a great feeling to get the TBR pile lower! Mine is going slowly, not because I haven't been reading, but rather I've been getting books from the library and have just ordered a pile of new books that I have to have.

I just finished Ford County by Grisham for my book club and really enjoyed his short stories. I won't say what I'm currently reading as it will be a future review and surprises are fun:)
I will give a clue, though...here are some authors on the top of my stack: Terry DeLong, Lisa Jackson, Lisa Lickel, Suzanne Enoch, and a name I can't remember but everyone has heard of the book! Aren't I a tease?!

  5. Oh my goodness! You're all reading such good things (and I'm still at it by the way....just finished The McKettricks: Tate yesterday and started Jodi Thomas' Beneath the Texas Sky today...I'm also reading When Passion Rules on my Kindle).

Wanda, thanks for the recommendations. I love finding new authors!

Yes, Dawn, you are a tease! I love Grisham and Lisa Jackson, but will put the others you mentioned on my list as well.

Lyndee, I understand not wanting (or not being able) to read your favorite genre while you're working on your own WIP. I had that problem a while ago (mine was more like I was comparing myself to those writers and found myself lacking) but as Alexis has pointed out numerous times, we all write differently so I've gotten over that little problem...and I'm so much happier!). The Bridal Swap sounds very interesting.

Alexis, you're like me....have one book going on your Kindle and one in paper. I haven't read Obsidian Flame yet, but you can bet it's definitely on my list (I simply adore Caris Roane) and now that I've started reading Jennifer Ashley's ShapeShifter series, I'll be picking up more of those as well.

*Sigh* Now that you've given me your recommendations, I can just see my pile growing again!
