New Release: BODYGUARD SEAL by Paige Tyler

Bodyguard SEAL

SEALs of Coronado, Book 8

By

Paige Tyler

Romance can be dangerous business…

Author Peyton Matthews never expected the price of fame would come to this. But someone has broken into her house in an attempt to steal the highly anticipated book in her YA romance series. A crazed super-fan? Or something more sinister? Either way, she’s on deadline and her publisher is taking no chances. Now she’s got a bodyguard, a hotter-than-hell Navy SEAL who’ll stay with her 24/7. Where she goes, he goes. All day, all night. And suddenly Peyton finds herself living out a romance plot.

But more than your heart can be broken.

Noah Bradley is on medical leave from active duty. With orders to do nothing, he’s about to lose his mind. A man can only play video games for so long. So, when his sister asks if he’d watch over a writer friend for a couple of weeks, Noah jumps at the chance to have something to do. No way did he expect the ‘writer’ to be a famous, walking-talking goddess who makes him more nervous than a room full of terrorists. But he soon realizes the quiet, sweet Peyton is everything he didn’t know he wanted. And for once he wants to have a real relationship. If he can keep Peyton alive.

When she’s kidnapped by the would-be book thieves, Noah is racing against the clock to find her. And he’s running out of time.

EXCERPT

As Peyton headed for the stairs, she was extremely aware of Noah walking behind her, and she suddenly found herself wondering if he was checking out her butt. Reminding herself that they weren’t in one of her books, she hurried up the rest of the steps, quickly pointing out the guest room, workout room, the home office where she did her writing, and a spare bathroom.

“My bedroom is the one at the end of the hall,” she added.

“Does your boyfriend stay over often?” he asked, his dark gaze surveying her bedroom, eyes lingering for a moment on the king-sized bed with its soft blue paisley-print blanket before turning to look toward the en suite bathroom beyond.

Thank goodness Noah wasn’t looking her way or he would have seen her standing there gaping like a carp.

“What?” she finally managed to squeak, hoping it would give her a little more time to gather her thoughts.

“Your boyfriend?” He swung his gaze back to her. “I assume he spends the night occasionally and need to know when so I can make myself scarce.”

Blushing, she slowly shook her head. In truth, her dating life was nonexistent. But it wasn’t her fault. She’d gone out with guys in college and had been in a relationship for a while after graduating, but nothing had come of it. Dating had taken a backseat once her writing career took off. Hell, she hadn’t even been out with a guy since sometime during the middle of book two in her series. Or had it been the beginning of book three? It was hard to remember. She liked to blame her lack of social life on her writing schedule, but honestly, she hadn’t met anyone who sparked enough of an interest to bother. But maybe that was changing.

“You don’t have to worry about that,” she said. “I’m sort of between boyfriends at the moment, so no guys will be hanging around.”

“Except me,” he murmured.

Peyton was sure she saw a flicker of something in his chocolate-brown eyes, though before she could be sure, he stepped past her into the hallway.

“Yup, just you,” she said, only realizing how sad that sounded once it was out.

When he didn’t respond, she decided he probably hadn’t heard her anyway, which was fortunate.

“So, this bodyguard thing,” she said, catching up with him in the hallway. “How does it work? Do you follow me around all the time, or will you be somewhere in hiding, ready to come running when I scream for help?”

He gave her a smile. “Less of the first and more of the second.”

She refused to touch the innuendo with a ten-foot pole. “So, I simply go about my business like normal, writing and stuff?”

“Yup. You do whatever you usually do, go wherever you usually go, and I’ll stay in the background. You won’t even know I’m here.”

Um, right.

Peyton seriously doubted she’d forget a man like Noah was hanging out in her house. He was sort of hard to miss, even when he wasn’t in the same room.

She cleared her throat, motioning toward her home office. “Okay then. I’m going to hang out up here and get some writing done. Feel free to grab something else to eat or drink if you want. I’ll be up here…just writing.”

Noah smiled again, then turned and headed downstairs. Peyton watched him disappear down the steps. How the hell was she ever going to get any writing done when her hunky bodyguard had taken up residence in her head?

Wyatt

Project Arma, Book 5

By

Nyssa Kathryn

A story that could cost her everything…

Investigative journalist Quinn Ross isn’t a woman who can just let major news pass her by. So, when she stumbles across a story like no other, she makes it her mission to report it to the masses.

She doesn’t count on the lengths to which some may go to keep her story from seeing the light of day. When Quinn suddenly finds herself in need of escape, she heads straight for tiny Marble Falls and her brother, Mason.

When he’s not running his company’s IT department, Wyatt Gray—former SEAL and co-owner of Marble Protection—spends every spare minute searching for those who betrayed him. The ones who turned him and his teammates into something beyond mere mortals. He doesn’t have time for distractions—but that’s exactly what he gets, in the form of his best friend’s sassy, spunky, sexy sister…who’s moved in right across the hall.

From the moment they meet, Quinn and Wyatt’s chemistry is combustible. But they both have big secrets. Then there’s Mason, who may consider Wyatt a brother, but he might still kill him for lusting after his baby sister.

But soon, none of that matters. When a killer sets his sights on Quinn, any chance at happiness with Wyatt may end before it’s had a chance to begin.

WYATT EXCERPT

Quinn flicked her gaze from the TV to Wyatt, then back again.

The man wasn’t touching her. Not even close. In fact, an entire person could fit between them on the couch.

She’d sat down first, expecting him to sit close. He hadn’t. He’d sat down on the other end. At least a shoulder-to-shoulder touch would be better than the ridiculous distance between them.

Was it possible she smelled bad? She’d jumped in the shower as soon as she’d gotten home, but it had been quick. Plus, she probably hadn’t spent as much time washing as usual because she’d spent the entire time thinking of different ways to maim Darren if he ever got close to her again.

“Did I choose the wrong movie?”

No. You chose the wrong seat.

Quinn drew her attention back to Wyatt. If she was honest, she had no idea what was going on with the movie. Not a single clue. “Sorry, I’m a bit distracted.”

“A bit” was one big fat understatement.

“What’s got you distracted?”

The story. Her old boss. Why the heck Wyatt was still so damn far away from her. “It’s nothing.”

Wyatt’s expression didn’t change. He just sat there looking perfect, waiting for her to spill her guts. Wasn’t going to happen.

“Okay.”

When his attention flicked back to the screen, a moment of irritation swirled through her. The man didn’t even attempt to scoot closer. There was no sneaky arm around the back of the couch. No subtle shuffle. Nothing.

“So, tell me, why no romance movies?” he asked.

Quinn scoffed. “They fill women’s heads with lies, giving them unrealistic expectations of dating in the real world.”

Wyatt chuckled. “That’s a bold statement. Give me an example.”

Had the man never watched a romance movie?

“Okay, how about the grand gestures of love, which are painted as normal. Flying the woman to Europe at a moment’s notice, organizing flash mobs, filling rooms with a thousand roses. That’s not real. Men don’t do that.”

His attention remained on the TV. “Some guys probably do that. Maybe you haven’t been spending time with the right men.”

Well, that was a given. “Come on, do you know anyone who’s done any of those things?”

Wyatt’s silence gave her the answer she was looking for.

“Romance today is a card and a kiss on Valentine’s Day. A bouquet of flowers on an anniversary. And that’s if you’re lucky.”

Wyatt lifted his shoulder. “Women could always go the extra mile for the man.”

“Oh, I’m sure they do. However, when the reciprocation stops, so do the gestures.”

His brows pulled together. “I didn’t know you were such a pessimist.”

“I prefer the term realist.” She gave Wyatt an innocent smile. It did kind of sound like she hated men. And romance. And love. Which wasn’t true at all. She just preferred the real and the raw. It saved her from disappointment. “Take us, for example,” Quinn continued. “In any romance movie, the guy would not be sitting so far from the girl.”

And close proximity on a movie night wasn’t even a large expectation. Not in Quinn’s mind, at least.

“You’d like me to sit closer?”

“Yes.” She’d prefer the man to be a lot closer. “I’d also like to know if I smell bad.”

Wyatt wrinkled his nose in confusion. “You don’t smell bad. You smell good. Really good. It’s actually a large reason for the distance.”

Smelling good didn’t sound like a reason for distance to her. “Why would me smelling good make you want to sit over there?”

“Because the closer I am, the more I want to touch you. And if I start touching you, I probably won’t be able to stop.”

A warmth heated in Quinn’s chest. “And why is that a bad thing?” It only sounded good to Quinn. Really good.

Wyatt ran a hand through his hair. It was the first time she’d seen him look uncomfortable. Like he didn’t want to tell her the reason.

Then it hit Quinn. “It’s because of my brother, isn’t it?”

When Wyatt’s silence continued, Quinn knew she’d hit the nail on the head.

Blowing out a frustrated breath, she began to stand, but stopped at Wyatt’s hand on hers.

“I like you. A lot. But your brother is like family to me. I feel like I should speak to him first, preferably in person, before anything happens between us.”

Quinn loved her brother. But he had no place in this relationship. He had no place in this room. “If you like me, kiss me.”

For me, the love of writing came from my love of reading.  Some of my early memories were of my mother taking me to the library and allowing me to check out as many books as I could carry.

Discovering the old historical romance books in the 1980's called to my love of romance and happy endings. In 2013, I finally gave in to the characters in my head pleading for their romantic suspense love stories to be told, and I now have over sixty books published.

Take a Peek Inside

I shouldn’t want you.

Jenna was spot f***ing on when she’d said those words. Of course, he’d known that shit from the start.

She shouldn’t want a man like him. She should be with someone who was safe. Trustworthy. A banker or a doctor. An accountant, maybe.

Someone whose life didn’t revolve around death and deceit.

But by some miracle, she’d chosen him. And God help her, he was too weak to walk away a second time.

Adrian did, however, find the strength to tear his lips from hers long enough to look her in the eye. He needed to be very clear when he told her this next part. Needed to make sure she understood what she was signing up for.

“You were right.” He pulled in a ragged breath.

“About what?”

“You shouldn’t want me.”

Jenna started to shake her head. The argument was already there, brewing behind her determined gaze.

Make it clear, shithead. Tell her the truth and let her decide.

“I’ve done things.” He clenched his jaw. “Terrifying things that would send you running in the opposite direction.”

Her auburn brows fell inward. “Why are you telling me this now?”

“Because I’m not a good man, Jenna.” He swallowed hard. “Not the kind of man you deserve.”

The lines on her forehead smoothed as a look of understanding crossed over her. “Is that why you left after our first time together? Because you think I deserve someone better?”

I know you do.

“I thought if I could have you that one time, I’d be able to forget you. I thought…” Adrian pulled her flush against his chest, holding her so tightly, his fingers dug into her back. “I thought these flames burning me up inside would go away, and I could move on but…”

“But what?”

He stared deep into her emerald eyes and shook his head. “The fire grew.”

“Adrian…”

She needs to know.

“You shouldn’t want me,” he reiterated the point. “You should go back to California. Stay as far away from me as you can.”

Her eyes softened and…was she smiling?

She’s not listening.

“I’m giving you an out, Jenna.”

“Funny.” The corners of her lips definitely curved. “I don’t recall asking for one.”

“I’m serious.” His voice came out rough. “You said it yourself…I’m a killer.”

“I know.”

Why isn’t she listening?

“I’ll kill anyone who even thinks about hurting you and not lose a wink of sleep.”

His declaration didn’t send her running. She didn’t flinch or tear herself from his arms. Instead, she seemed to hold him closer.

Didn’t she hear what I just said? Can’t she see the darkness living inside me?

“I’ve walked away from you once before.” He laid it all out there. “I don’t think I can do it again.”

“Good.” She cupped one side of his face. “I don’t want you to walk away. And, whether you want to believe it or not, I know exactly what kind of man you are.”

“No, you—”

“You’re the kind of man who gave up the life he knew for his country. You risked yourself to save my friend.” She rose up, her lips a hair’s breadth away from his. “You risked your life for me.”

I’d risk everything for you.

“Jenna—”

That’s the kind of man I want to be with. That’s the kind of man I can see myself falling for.”

His heart punched his ribs like a prize fighter. “Be sure, baby. You need to be sure.”

Because he was pretty sure he’d already fallen.

“I am sure, Adrian.” Her lips whispered across his as she spoke. “I want you.” A simple kiss. “I want all of you.”

And just like that, his control snapped.
