MIDNIGHT ON THE DOUBLE-B by Kayce Lassiter on Paranormal Fragment Fridays Blog Hop

Welcome to the fourth week of Paranormal Fragment Fridays Blog Hop! This will be the last week. Each stop on the blog hop will have an author posting a "fragment" of his or her paranormal work on Fridays, and Happily Ever After Thoughts is featuring its paranormal authors.

Today, I am happy to post a fragment of a scene in my romantic short story, Midnight on the Double-B. Here the fairy godmother, Delta Jane, tells Kylah McCombs who she is and what she is about to do for Kylah. Hope you like it :-)

That’s my story, smart-alec and sassy, and I’m stickin’ to it.  Hang on tight now ‘cuz we’re gonna go real, real fast!

Love ya, Kayce.

Fragment from Midnight on the Double-B:

“How’d you get here anyway?  I didn’t hear your motorcycle pull in.”
“Ah, I didn’t feel like eating dust today, so I just popped in.”
Kylah smiled to herself.  “On your broom?”
After a moment of silence, she turned to find the strange woman looking at her with a self-satisfied grin.
“Honey, it don’t make no sense for you to go pissin’ off your fairy godmother at a time like this.  You’re gonna need me to get out of this jam and catch that handsome young beast you’re working for.”
Oh my God, she’s freaking crazy.
“Nope,” the woman replied, “not crazy.”
Kylah stared at her.  “Did I say that out loud?”
“No.”
“You psychic?”
“You might say that, but your thoughts are the only ones I can hear.”
Oh, my freaking luck.  If she really were my fairy godmother, I’d have to shoot myself.  Now how do I get this crazy bitch out of my kitchen?
“Oh, now that’s just downright rude.”
“What?  What’s rude?”
Kylah’s heart pounded in her chest.  This was getting creepy.
“Calling me a crazy bitch just isn’t right.  I’m standing right here.  I’m a terrific fairy godmother.  You’re just lucky it’s me and not that hair-brained Gretta, always parading around in a thong bikini she shouldn’t be caught dead in.  Tough to find a place to look when you’re talking to that one.”
Kylah stared.
What the hell?
“Now, let’s talk about that handsome Michael Beasty.”
“Let’s not.”
The woman pointed a sharp, green nail at Kylah.  “You’re as rude as your young man.  Keep it up and I’ll file to get you another FGM.  I don’t have to do this, you know.”
“Do what exactly?”
“Get you married off to that handsome man you’re working for.”
“What?”  Kylah’s voice jumped about three octaves.  “Married?  To the devil?”
Delta Jane’s eyebrows rose sharply.  “To the devil?  Nooooo.  That would be a special assignment, requiring an FGM from the Special Forces Unit.  I’m only regional.”

The Best Man by Kristan Higgins

This is a great story to read when you just need total happiness.  Higgins crafted a masterpiece of drama, tension, and overwhelming love.

The vineyards of New York supply a beautiful and dreamy setting, although Faith Holland and Levi Cooper have to resolve inner issues in order to truly appreciate the colors and scents of the valley.

Faith’s biggest upset is she was left at the altar by a perfect man-he would prefer another perfect man.  Better to find out before the rings are exchanged.

Levi never liked Faith, or so he says, until he’s a lonely Chief of Police with a bitter memory of a three month marriage.

Many small family issues pull Faith and Levi together and apart repeatedly.  And they aren’t the usual problems.

It would be so much easier if everyone just said what was on their minds, but that only happens in the movies-definitely not in a romance novel.

This is a novel I wish hadn’t ended as Faith and Levi were so richly characterized that I didn’t want to say goodbye.  Faith had a sweet innocence that Levi’s alpha character wasn’t sure how to handle, so they learned about each other at a turtle’s pace along with the help of Faith’s leg-humping helper dog (that’s a hint about another of her things to deal with), a nosey yet caring family, and lessons on communication.

I’m already checking out what other books by Kristan Higgins I can get ahold of-fast.

Enjoy, Dawn

Giveaway and Interview with Jodi Vaughn

Alexis: Today we have paranormal romance author, Jodi Vaughn, visiting us and she will be giving away an ecopy of VIELED SECRETS to one lucky commenter. Welcome Jodi!

Alexis: When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Jodi: I’ve always had stories in my head. I even started to write down a few on paper. It wasn’t until I attended a one day writer’s conference at a small University in Arkansas and met Jodi Thomas that I realized I could actually do this. She told me about RWA and gave me some very encouraging words. From that moment on, I decided I made the choice to become a writer, and I have never regretted it.

Alexis: What made you chose your title?

Jodi:VEILED SECRETS was not the original title. Quite a few editors had read it and told me to change the title to something less generic. (No, I’m not saying what it was. Lol)  I started digging into my story and realized that this story is about my heroine’s journey to not only find out what she is but to reconcile the fact that those closest to her hide her identity ( that she has Fae blood) for years.  VEILED SECRETS seemed to fit.

Alexis: What are you working on now?

Jodi: I have finished the second book, VEILED ENCHANTMENT, and am plotting out the third book in this trilogy.

I have also started a shifter series that is set in Arkansas. So far I have four books written and can’t wait to start the fifth.

Alexis: What was the first romance you ever read?

Jodi: The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen Woodiwiss. I was in Jr. High when my mother let me borrow her book. I never returned it.

Alexis: Ah yes, mine was Shanna. What has been the best piece of advice you ever received for your writing career?

Perseverance and determination are the key to getting published. Don’t ever stop writing and don’t ever give up.

Alexis: Thank you Jodi for visiting us on Happily Ever After Thoughts. Jodi is giving away an ecopy of VEILED SECRETS to one lucky commenter. Check out the blurb of this story!

VEILED SECRETS
When fairies and demons collide all hell breaks loose.

Celeste Hart yearns for a normal life, but she has never fit in because of her dark visions. She vows to let nothing stop her from discovering what she is, good, bad or evil. But she is soon distracted from her quest when sexy Eric Nordstrom charms his way into her bed. He leaves her even more confused by her intense feelings for him and discovers their one night of passion has resulted in something that will change them forever, a child.

CEO Eric Nordstrom has no interest in romance and even less in a relationship. His company has always been his focus. But he can’t stop thinking about the elusive Celeste, who has made him feel more in one night than he has in his entire life. When he learns of the pregnancy, he convinces Celeste to marry him on the pretense of keeping the company from another scandal while trying to seduce her back into his arms.

Celeste struggles to fit into Eric’s elite world and soon discovers her visions are a result of having Fae blood. When the vengeful Queen of the Fairies sends a demon army to take her unborn child, Celeste must embrace her fairy heritage and enlist Eric’s help in her life and death fight.  Suspicious of a world he doesn’t understand yet determined to protect the woman he loves, Eric joins forces with Celeste to protect their unborn child from the evil that has invaded their home.

Fate brought them together, will destiny rip them apart?

PASSION'S POISON by Lexi Post on Paranormal Fragment Fridays blog hop

Welcome to the another week of Paranormal Fragment Fridays Blog Hop! Each stop on the blog hop will have an author posting a "fragment" of his or her paranormal work on Fridays and Happily Ever After Thoughts is featuring its paranormal authors.

Today, I am happy to post a fragment of a scene in my erotic romance, Passion’s Poison. Here the heroine is talking about her unique problem with her grandmother. Bea has to have sex and expel her poisons into men to survive, but then they become ill. Hope you like it :-)

Always, Lexi

Her grandmother knew how to get to the point. Okay, so could she. “I think I’ve found Mr. Right.”

Grandma stopped in mid-chew and swallowed. “Bea, really?”

“I think so, but I’m so afraid I’ll hurt him. I realized this morning that I have no idea how much is too much for a man to take. I’ve never been around them after… Uh, you know.”

Grandma nodded. “After sex? Yes, unfortunately, it’s different for different men. I had one man who could make love with me twice a week and not feel bad at all, but I also had another who became ill after just one time.”

Bea’s hopes dwindled. “How do they get sick? Do they vomit, have headaches, pass out? I have no idea what to expect for Zach.”

Chewing her cookie, her grandma thought for a moment. “It’s a lot like a virus with cramping, sometimes vomiting, generally diarrhea and often a headache. Those who are sensitive pass out. I think your first boyfriend did that, didn’t he?”

“Yes, we were teenagers and Mom hadn’t told me, so we had sex every chance we could for a week. He went into a coma.”

Grandma Beatrice patted her hand. “Yes, I remember. Your mother should have told you as soon as you started your monthly cycles.”

Bea sighed. “So, I guess what you’re saying is, I have to experiment. I was hoping for something a little more definitive.”

Grandma shook her head. “Honey, even if I could tell you exactly how a man could handle it, each of our generations is different. My experience is based on a higher level of poison in my system than you have in yours.”
