The Klutz Quotient

Hello, gentle readers! Hope you are all well and staying safe!
I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before….but I am a klutz (just ask my DH—he can tell you how often I’ve walked into walls or tripped over nothing to fall flat on my face). I am uncoordinated and unbalanced. Have been all my life. I didn’t play sports when I was young because, you know, that would require a certain amount of coordination and I, sadly, just didn’t have it. My mother, bless her heart, even put me in ballet classes, hoping I would acquire some grace. It was an utter failure and after four years, we both quietly accepted that I would remain a klutz.
This has not changed over the years (in fact, it's gotten worse) and I’ve learned to live with it (really, what choice did I have?). It doesn’t really bother me. So what that I trip going up the stairs (even though I hold on to the banister)? Who cares that I walk into walls or trip over nothing (though I will admit, it’s getting a little more difficult to get up when I fall to the ground).
Why am I telling you this? Well, because I recently discovered that the klutz quotient has increased and I am as uncoordinated as ever (and it was witnessed….thankfully by the dogs and not another human being).
I’m not really big into exercise, though I do like walking and Zumba (and yes, even with Zumba…well, I’m not going to tell you what it looks like when I do it…that’s only for me and my mirror to know), but I was looking for something else to try, something that would fit in with the time I have available (time is a big issue for me--just not enough hours in the day and it’s too darn hot right now to go walking outside).
I thought maybe yoga so I watched a few recordings on YouTube and tried
some of the poses…yeah, no, that didn’t work considering my issues with balance. If yoga wasn’t going to work for me, surely there were other things I could try.
Back to YouTube and I find these S.I.T. exercise videos. There are some routines that are only seven minutes long. Perfect. Fits into my time crunch. So I started doing them. Okay, let me rephrase that. I started trying to do them. Needless to say, hilarity ensued. Not only did my klutz quotient come out in full force (oh my gosh, did it ever!), but the dogs (because I was on the floor for some of these moves) thought I was playing so I had paws and long, wet tongues in my face. I am grateful the dogs do NOT laugh out loud, because I’m definitely sure they were laughing (heck, I was laughing, too!)
Thankfully, sitting at my computer and writing does not require coordination. I think I’ll go back to my story. It’s safer.

Stay well! Stay safe! And remember to spread kindness wherever you go!

Veronica Reviews - TO CATCH AN EARL by Kate Bateman

To Catch an Earl

Bow Street Bachelors, Book 2

by

Kate Bateman

★★★★

4-Stars

Historical Romance

“I want you again, Emmy Danvers.  And I want to take my time…”

“How on earth was a woman supposed to resist that?”

A kiss from a mysterious stranger at a masquerade ball is what kept Alex Harland, the Earl of Melton, going long after the war is over.  After all this time, he still cannot forget the scent and feel of the beautifully bold woman that asked him to dance and stole a kiss in the moonlight.  Now an agent for the Bow Street Runners, Alex has been given a task of apprehending the infamous Nightjar—a jewel thief that has been stealing the French Crown Jewels.  While investigating the latest crime scene, Alex is jolted to awareness by a familiar scent…one that kept him awake many a night dreaming of the woman that got away before he even got her name.  Realizing his fantasy is close at hand, Alex is determined to solve not only the case of the stolen crown jewels, but also that of his stolen heart…

Emmy Danvers has helped her father, the Nightjar, steal back the crown jewels for the French.  But when her father dies, the Nightjar’s thieving ways are laid to rest with him.  That is until a blackmailer threatens the Danvers family with bodily harm if they do not finish the job and collect the remaining jewels.  Left with no choice, Emmy plots to steal the last of the jewels, but as fate would have it, the one man she both loves and fears has been assigned the job of tracking down the Nightjar.  Now she will have to walk a fine line between saving her family as well as her heart…

To Catch an Earl is what most would refer to as an enemies to lovers trope.  While I prefer friends to lovers, I did enjoy the cat and mouse games Alex and Emmy played, and found this an enjoyable read.  To Catch an Earl is the second in Kate Bateman’s Bow Street Bachelors series, but may be read standalone.  Would recommend to fans of this genre.

Sharing what I love,

Veronica

Sorry Not Sorry by Sophie Ranald

Charlotte has it made, living in London, a best friend, good employment at a fast paced investment firm, and...  The future is ready to change whether she wants it to or not.

Her bestie and roommate, Maddy, is getting married to Henry, the other roommate.  The household is disrupted.  Charlotte is the "can-do" person at the firm, and it's getting so busy that one person is too few to do all the office work.

Maybe she'll share her spare time with a boyfriend.  She'll have to find one of those, too.

Never one to poo-poo new ideas, she finds and interesting blog called "Sorry Not Sorry", author anonymous.  It's all about taking chances, doing something different, and finding your dream man.  Impossible, but let's just see what the blog suggests.

Charlotte meets her new roommates.  Adam is unsocial and stays in his room doing IT stuff, and Tansy seems too perfect to approach.  Let's try the boyfriend challenge.

After many nerve battling activities suggested by Sorry Not Sorry, Myles falls into her lap at the office.  He's amazing in so many ways.  Ah, but there's always a hitch.

Myles treats Charlotte like a queen, trips, gifts, gourmet dinners, and amazing physical contact.

She also gets to know her mates.  Adam isn't such a sour puss, and Tansy always appears when Charlotte needs an ear.  Adam doesn't kiss too badly, she discovers at a drunken party.  Xander at the office knows how to hold a door for a lady and help her out of a mountain of work.

A few too many men on her chart?  They all have a purpose, and will one actually be worth the title of "my boyfriend"?  And who could possibly write the blog, give original advice that just might have results, and did the author end the blog happily?

I know who I want Charlotte to end up with and I didn't even consider who the blog author might be, but it's fun!

Happy reading,

Dawn

New Release: BODYGUARD SEAL by Paige Tyler

Bodyguard SEAL

SEALs of Coronado, Book 8

By

Paige Tyler

Romance can be dangerous business…

Author Peyton Matthews never expected the price of fame would come to this. But someone has broken into her house in an attempt to steal the highly anticipated book in her YA romance series. A crazed super-fan? Or something more sinister? Either way, she’s on deadline and her publisher is taking no chances. Now she’s got a bodyguard, a hotter-than-hell Navy SEAL who’ll stay with her 24/7. Where she goes, he goes. All day, all night. And suddenly Peyton finds herself living out a romance plot.

But more than your heart can be broken.

Noah Bradley is on medical leave from active duty. With orders to do nothing, he’s about to lose his mind. A man can only play video games for so long. So, when his sister asks if he’d watch over a writer friend for a couple of weeks, Noah jumps at the chance to have something to do. No way did he expect the ‘writer’ to be a famous, walking-talking goddess who makes him more nervous than a room full of terrorists. But he soon realizes the quiet, sweet Peyton is everything he didn’t know he wanted. And for once he wants to have a real relationship. If he can keep Peyton alive.

When she’s kidnapped by the would-be book thieves, Noah is racing against the clock to find her. And he’s running out of time.

EXCERPT

As Peyton headed for the stairs, she was extremely aware of Noah walking behind her, and she suddenly found herself wondering if he was checking out her butt. Reminding herself that they weren’t in one of her books, she hurried up the rest of the steps, quickly pointing out the guest room, workout room, the home office where she did her writing, and a spare bathroom.

“My bedroom is the one at the end of the hall,” she added.

“Does your boyfriend stay over often?” he asked, his dark gaze surveying her bedroom, eyes lingering for a moment on the king-sized bed with its soft blue paisley-print blanket before turning to look toward the en suite bathroom beyond.

Thank goodness Noah wasn’t looking her way or he would have seen her standing there gaping like a carp.

“What?” she finally managed to squeak, hoping it would give her a little more time to gather her thoughts.

“Your boyfriend?” He swung his gaze back to her. “I assume he spends the night occasionally and need to know when so I can make myself scarce.”

Blushing, she slowly shook her head. In truth, her dating life was nonexistent. But it wasn’t her fault. She’d gone out with guys in college and had been in a relationship for a while after graduating, but nothing had come of it. Dating had taken a backseat once her writing career took off. Hell, she hadn’t even been out with a guy since sometime during the middle of book two in her series. Or had it been the beginning of book three? It was hard to remember. She liked to blame her lack of social life on her writing schedule, but honestly, she hadn’t met anyone who sparked enough of an interest to bother. But maybe that was changing.

“You don’t have to worry about that,” she said. “I’m sort of between boyfriends at the moment, so no guys will be hanging around.”

“Except me,” he murmured.

Peyton was sure she saw a flicker of something in his chocolate-brown eyes, though before she could be sure, he stepped past her into the hallway.

“Yup, just you,” she said, only realizing how sad that sounded once it was out.

When he didn’t respond, she decided he probably hadn’t heard her anyway, which was fortunate.

“So, this bodyguard thing,” she said, catching up with him in the hallway. “How does it work? Do you follow me around all the time, or will you be somewhere in hiding, ready to come running when I scream for help?”

He gave her a smile. “Less of the first and more of the second.”

She refused to touch the innuendo with a ten-foot pole. “So, I simply go about my business like normal, writing and stuff?”

“Yup. You do whatever you usually do, go wherever you usually go, and I’ll stay in the background. You won’t even know I’m here.”

Um, right.

Peyton seriously doubted she’d forget a man like Noah was hanging out in her house. He was sort of hard to miss, even when he wasn’t in the same room.

She cleared her throat, motioning toward her home office. “Okay then. I’m going to hang out up here and get some writing done. Feel free to grab something else to eat or drink if you want. I’ll be up here…just writing.”

Noah smiled again, then turned and headed downstairs. Peyton watched him disappear down the steps. How the hell was she ever going to get any writing done when her hunky bodyguard had taken up residence in her head?

Space Coast Book Lovers conference 2021

I don’t know about you, but I just love hanging out with others in the Romance book world. This past weekend, I had the chance to do that again for the first time in 18 months! I was a featured author at the Space Coast Book Lovers conference in Cape Canaveral, Florida and it was awesome! This is a well-organized and well-run event that I highly recommend.

This conference is so unique. First, it is reader-focused, so if you love reading books, you’ll love this one. Second, it has some awesome events that allow readers and authors to hang out in fun ways. There’s a meet and greet, an escape room, painting, crafts, and more. In fact, I held a line dance class! Third, it has a superb book signing event. I sold out of two titles – Heart of Frankenstein and Passion of Sleepy Hollow. Luckily, I had all 28 other titles there so there were still plenty to choose from. This year we had a wonderful, funny and touching keynote speaker, Elicia Hyder, who really captured the feelings of those in attendance. And last, SCBL has a fantastic themed after-party with gorgeous decorations and great costumes. Of course, at that party we had to do some line dancing. In addition, it’s held at a hotel with a pool and waterfall. What’s not to love? If that’s not good enough, Cocoa Beach is just down the road, and if the weather is good, we get to see rockets launch.

But the best part of this conference are the people. From the organizers to the volunteers to the other authors and readers, the community is full of happy, warm, lovely people. It actually makes it hard to leave. I am absolutely going back in 2022 for my third year. This conference can’t be beat! Just sayin’ 😉

Always, Lexi
