I'm excited today to be interviewing Lisa Fishback, who currently resides in Texas.  

Hi, Lisa!

Lexi: How did you get into reading romance novels? 

Lisa: My sister was reading Harlequin, so I started reading them around 13-14 years old.  She also introduced me to other authors over the years.  Her best suggestion to date was Lexi Post. 

Lexi: You are so sweet! I’m thrilled that you like my stories. 💙

Lexi: What are you proud of? 

Lisa: Two things ~ my son and my career.  My son is 33 years old and a very successful business banker. I was a single mother and let me tell you that is not an easy job, especially puberty years.  That is a hard thing on a person but harder on the parent!  I could not be prouder of the man he has become.  As for my career, I have been in the travel industry for 36 years and with my current company for 30 years.  I love my job and feel blessed every day.  I have been to many great destinations because of this career and have never taken that for granted. We live on a great planet and I encourage everyone to travel!

Lexi: Your son sounds wonderful! I knew about your career as it was my inspiration for Angela in Heart of Frankenstein. But didn’t realize you’d been in that job for 30 years! Wow!

Lexi: What is your favorite color? 

Lisa: Orange because it is such a happy color. 

Lexi: That’s my husband’s favorite, too.

Lexi: What is your favorite book of mine? Why? 

Lisa: I’m addicted to the Eden series, but my all-time favorite is Masque.  I just love Synn and all the rooms, lessons learned, the many spirits involved; living and non-living. 

Lexi: I’m humbled that it’s one of my books.

Lexi: Do you have any pets? 

Lisa: 2 dogs. Misty is a 9-year-old Chinese Crested Powder Puff.  She is smaller at 10 lbs than her breeds name is long!  Nanu is a 2-year-old Morkie who weighs in at 6 lbs and is all kisses and snuggles.  I always have 2 dogs.  Dogs need dog companions as much as we need dog companions. 

Lexi: What is the best piece of advice you have received? 

Lisa: Don’t sweat the small stuff. In other words, if you can’t change it let it go. Hanging on to negative emotions is not healthy so think about it: Can you change the situation?  If not, let it go and move on.  This is a practice that does not come easy but when you do it often it becomes second nature to accomplish.

Lexi: I love that.

Lexi: If you could go on an all-expense-paid vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why? 

Lisa: Switzerland in general.  Of all the places I’ve been this is my most favorite country.  It is absolutely stunning in views, history, architecture, food.  It has the most beautiful lakes I’ve ever seen. 

Lexi: What’s your favorite holiday? Why? 

Lisa: Thanksgiving. It was always my favorite time with my grandparents growing up and continues to be a favorite holiday focused on spending time with family and being grateful for our bond.

Today, I am excited to be interviewing Patty Way, who is talking with me from Pennsylvania.  

Hello, Patty!

And before we get started, I know your birthday is in October ~ so...Happy Birthday to you!  🎂 🎈

Lexi: How did you get into reading romance novels?

Patty: I've always been a reader.  In school, I loved historical novels about royalty.  Then I discovered Georgette Heyer at a bookstore when on vacation at the beach.  From there, I moved on to Barbara Cartland, whose writing style was similar.  Then I discovered Kathleen Woodiwiss and Rosemary Rogers and the rest of that group of romance writers. 

 

Lexi: What are you good at?

Patty: I'm good at listening and offering suggestions.  At work, my friends used to call me Dr. Way because I was their psychologist!  I am also good at writing letters and keeping in touch with friends and organizing group events, such as group lunches, group vacations, I've even been a wedding planner and photographer for several friends' weddings.  And I'm good at deciphering legal jargon, interpreting legalese into layman's terms, circumventing Medicare and health insurance issues for family members.

Lexi: It sounds like you were a very valued member of the office.  People like you are needed in every office, I think.  You are obviously a very good listener.

Lexi: What makes you happy?  

Patty: The little things...Being outside, dreaming of living at the beach or being at the beach, warm and hot weather and high humidity, when I don't have to make decisions and when I have time to myself.

Lexi: I'm with you on the warm weather.  It's one reason I moved to the Caribbean.  If the healthcare had been better, I'd still be there!

Lexi: What types of romance do you like to read?

Patty: Historical, paranormal, time travel, and erotica (aka ~ mature adult).

Lexi: What are you proud of?

Patty: Working at the same place all my career (over 40 years) and being respected by and friends with the professionals (judges, attorneys, police) I worked with.

Lexi: What’s your average day look like?

Patty:  Get up 6 - 6:30 a.m., breakfast and my time (reading, Facebook, emails, taking walk) until 1:00, when my brother and I get my mom (she's 99, has dementia, can not walk, can barely hear and is mostly incontinent) out of bed. I wash her, dress her, we get her on the potty chair, then to her chair.  The afternoon is spent with me getting her lunch, eating with her (she takes most of the afternoon to eat) sitting with her, then getting supper for her, and helping her eat.  After supper, I help her with her dentures, sit with her until around 7, then get her ready for bed.  After she is in bed, 7:30 or 7:45, I still stay in the same room as her, usually on my laptop or watching t.v.  My bedtime is between 11 and midnight.  I sleep in the same room with her to make sure she is all right during the night.

Lexi: Wow, your day is full of giving to your mom.  You are a saint.  It's so wonderful of you to help her in her time of need.

Lexi: What is your favorite color?

Patty:  Purple. 

Lexi: What is your favorite time of day?

Patty: Morning.

Lexi: Do you have any pets?

Patty: Two cats - Punkin, a Maine Coon mix, and JJ, a small Tuxedo.

 Lexi: Your two kitties are so precious!

 

 Lexi: Are you single or in a relationship?

Patty: Single.

 

Lexi: What initially draws your interest to a book? (Author, cover, blurb, etc?)

Patty: Author and topic.

 

Lexi: Do you have a preference between e-books or paperbacks? Why?

Patty:  Paperbacks, I read very few e-books.

 

Lexi: Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

Patty:  I identify as an introvert but most consider me an extrovert.

 

Lexi: What is your most treasured possession?

Patty:  Photos and personal items of my ancestors.

 

Lexi: If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?

Patty: On the beach in a beach house where the weather is warm all year long.

 

Lexi: How often do you read?     

Patty:  As often as I can.  4 days of the week for an hour each time.

 

Lexi: What is the first thing you do in the morning?

Patty: Talk to my cats, get dressed, and drink coffee.

Lexi: You sound like me talking to the cat in the morning. 😀

 

Lexi: Do you have a favorite quote or saying?

Patty: “Be still and know that I am God; for lo, I am with you always.”

 

Lexi: What kind of car do you drive? If you had your choice, would it be that one or something different?

Patty? Jeep Patriot and Jeep Renegade.

 

Lexi: What did you think you'd be when you grew up?

Patty: Secretary, wife, and mother.

 

Lexi: What's your favorite holiday? Why?  

Patty:  Christmas.  I love the Christmas season.  The joy and merriment, shopping, happy people, decorating, and the feeling of good anticipation.

Lexi: Do you dream at night? Do you remember your dreams?

Patty: Yes, several times a night.  Always in color and I do usually remember them.

READER INTERVIEW ~ Michelle 😀

Today, I am thrilled to be interviewing Michelle Hedgcock, who is chatting with me from Michigan.  Hello, Michelle!

Lexi: Tell me about your significant other.

Michelle: My husband is an IT manager for a special medical company. He works hard there and here at home too. He’s handy around the house, does the laundry and helps cook meals. During gardening and preserving season he helps as much as he can, especially with the preserving. I feel I’m the luckiest woman to have such a supportive and involved husband. He’s a great dad as well. The relationship he has with our daughter (only child) is fantastic. We’ve been together since 1992 so I’d say we suit pretty well.

 

We met thru cruising downtown a local city. Initially I was dating one of his friends. His friend eventually married one of my friends. We’re still all friends. 😊

Lexi: I agree, you definitely have a keeper for a husband.  How old is your daughter?

Michelle: Alexis just turned 16 in July. With the pandemic getting her license was delayed so she just got it this week, as we were finally able to get into the secretary of state. 

Lexi: What's your favorite dessert?

Michelle: Vanilla ice cream with various types of toppings: hot fudge, chocolate, caramel, sprinkles, whipped topping. Or salted caramel ice cream. Oh, there’s also buttered pecan ice cream…that reminds me of my great grandpa because it was his favorite.

Lexi: What's your average day look like?

Michelle: I’m not a morning person although I try. I get up by 7 most days although I try to get up earlier than that. Doesn’t always work and since I work from home, I don’t feel the need to get my butt out of bed earlier than needed. I spend at least an hour checking Instagram and Facebook (I manage a few groups for clients so I check first thing in the morning to make sure nothing hinky has been posted or rude comments made) and reading. I eat breakfast then go out to let out the chickens, feed and water them. Some days I take a walk in the veggie gardens and orchard. I might harvest something, pull a few weeds, or address any pests. Then I sit down and do a quick look at email then I start my work for clients.

Midday 1 hour break for lunch where I read some more. Sometimes I’ll preserve what was harvested, bake, or do some food prep after lunch. Otherwise it’s back to the computer to work.

 Around 5 I start making dinner (unless it’s my husbands or daughters turn to cook, then I work until dinner is ready). After dinner sometimes we watch an episode of Forged in Fire or Mythbusters. Dishes are also done after dinner.

 Then I go back to work, depending in the time of the month. Or I’ll work on house paperwork like the budget, meal planning, bill payments, etc. Then I’ll read about ½ an hour before bed. I’m in bed by midnight but I aim for 11:30.

Lexi: Your day sounds sooo organized but with a nice mix of outdoors, fun stuff, home stuff, and work.  What do you do for your clients?

Michelle: I'm a virtual assistant for homestead bloggers. I do a variety of things such as research, Facebook scheduling & posting, write newsletters, edit posts and documents, manage FB groups, manage email.

Lexi: What is your favorite color?

Michelle:  Mid to dark purple 💜

Lexi: How often do you read?

Michelle:  Daily

Lexi: How many books a month do you read?

Michelle:  Average around 29

Lexi: What kind of car do you drive?  If you had a choice, would it be that one or a different one?

Michelle:  Haha! I drive a 1998 Chevy Silverado. It’s paid for and runs just fine. Once we have debt paid off we’ll save up to get me a mid-sized SUV. I haven’t decided which one I want though.

Lexi: My husband had a Chevy Silverado and I loved it.  It had a bench seat.

Lexi: How many children, grandchildren, great grandchildren all total do you have?

Michelle: 1 teenage daughter.

Lexi: What do you do for fun (besides reading romance novels)?

Michelle: Papercrafting, kayaking, biking, swimming.

Lexi: What did you think you'd be when you grew up?

Michelle: A manager of some sort! I had no clue what field I’d be in, I just knew I wanted to be in charge. LOL Now I’m in charge for sure…I am my own business.

Today, I am excited to be interviewing Lenna Hendershott, who lives in Oregon.

 Welcome Lenna!

Lexi: How did you get into reading romance novels?

Lenna: I’ve been a reader since middle school, and at the time it was safe to ride the city bus to the public library alone. I read the mythology and biography kids section through and by then the librarian pointed me to more books. I was in high school by then and I read all of Mary Stewart and Victoria Holts books and was pointed to Georgette Heyer and read all of hers. By then I took a break in college and found a copy Bertrice Small’s Adora and Sergeanne Golon’s Angelique and I was hooked.

Lexi: What are you good at?

Lenna: Everything crafty, especially with textiles, paper and beads. I love art. I have oil painted, knit & crochet, even made a fisherman’s sweater for my high school boyfriend. I love counted cross stitch and making charm bracelets which I have done for HRR-Historical Romance Retreat. I’m their “Charm Angel” making the scavenger hunt charm bracelets for the event. I also sew. I learned at 4 thanks to my mother who was self taught and made middle and high school clothes out of necessity. I made many of my children’s baby and toddler clothes and now I make historical costumes for attending HRR.

Lexi: Now I see why you like my mom's creations so much.  You two would get along wonderfully!

Lexi: What makes you happy?

Lenna: Creating and helping brighten other people’s day. I try to give at least one person a day a compliment, even if it’s “that color looks good on you”. Someone once told me my smile was a gift, so I try to gift it to everyone I meet.

Lexi: You have such a great outlook on life.  I love having people like you around! 

Lexi: Tell me about your significant other.

Lenna: My husband of 41 years this month, just retired from being a sole practitioner attorney. We were high school classmates but didn’t date until college. He was our Sunday school VP and he was so cute. He drove a Triumph Spitfire convertible and I called him for a ride when my car broke down. I made sure to wear my mini-skirts as he is a leg man…..

Lexi: Happy anniversary! 💗

Lexi: What’s your average day look like?

Lenna: Right now pretty boring as I’m under “Covid house arrest” given my multitude of health issues. Before it was Exercise classed at our local rec center M-F mornings and computer emails/FB in the afternoons and running errands & doctor appointments. Evenings were making dinner, watching TV & reading with my husband. I really miss my chair yoga and deep water aerobics classes that helped me be with people, kept my weight down and blood sugars in easier control.

Lexi: I hope you've been able to do some excercising at home. Like you said, health is everything, especially when someone has challenges.

Lexi: Who made the biggest impact on your life?

Lenna: That’s a hard question, many people have. First my mother, who was my best friend and a fountain of wisdom even though she didn’t know it. I also was influenced by one of my kids Sunday school teachers. She was such an awesome role model of the best Christian woman I could imagine. Then there was author Karen Ranney who helped me through some really hard years in my life, even though we never got to meet. She was there for me through her blog and emails when I felt alone and overwhelmed. I miss her imput now that she passed away suddenly this year. I still don’t know what took her.

Lexi: Oh, I didn't realize Karen had passed.  I used to read her books when I started on romances. 😢

Lexi: Do you have any pets?

Lenna: We always have one cat. My husband and I love cats and he’s a bit allergic so it’s only one short hair. Currently it’s Rascal who is 4-5 years old that we rescued from a widow who was left with her husband’s 2 cats. Rascal was beating up his litter sister in his grief over losing his human he’d bonded with. He’s now very firmly bonded with my husband and talks us to death! I’ve never had a cat who could out “talk” my toddlers but he does!

Lexi: Sounds like Rascal is a real character!

Lexi: What are you proud of?

Lenna: That my husband and I have raised 2 very successful children. Both are college graduates and have great jobs that are salary with full benefits. So far no grandchildren but I am ever hopeful, lol. Our daughter and her husband bought the house I grew up in and lives on the other side of town. She’s the Assistant Manager of our city’s Victoria’s Secret and before Covid sent her all over the area helping out the other stores when they had problems. Our son is a Construction Engineer with a local Sand & Gravel company here in town. They send him all over the area to oversee jobs and makes bids on jobs for the company. They were sending him out of town to get extra education for things at the company to help them be better, before Covid. He’s living with his serious girlfriend as she finished her degree in Computer Programming & Networking at OSU. 

Lexi: I'm so glad to hear that your children are doing well and everyone is safe.

Today, I am excited to be interviewing Tracy Antorcha, who is chatting with me from Florida.  Welcome Tracy!

Lexi: What makes you happy?
Tracy: Reading good books, purring cats, and the beach

Lexi: What is your favorite dessert?
Tracy:  Cheesecake

 Lexi: What is your favorite color?
Tracy: Purple 💜

Lexi: What is your favorite time of day?
Tracy: Sunrise
Lexi: Why do you like the sunrise? 

Tracy: I like sunrise because it’s the start of a new day, and it’s beautiful. I used to be a ‘night owl’ but after I had kids, that all changed!  Lol  Now that the kids are grown and I am older, I like to go to bed early and get up early.

 Lexi: The only time I see that time of day is if I stay up that long.  LOL

Lexi: Do you collect anything?  If so, what?        

Tracy: Seashells
Lexi: What started you collecting seashells?

Tracy: I stared collecting seashells when I realized there was such a huge variety to be had.  I only collect ones that are visible on the beach, no digging for them and no looking under water for them.  It’s fun to walk on the beach and find them – good exercise, too! 😀

Lexi: My sister loves finding things on the beach as well.  It's wonderful that you respect the environment while still being able to enjoy nature's beauty.  I hear you about the exercise! 

Lexi: If you could have dinner with one famous person, who would you choose?

Tracy: Stephen King
Lexi: You must tell me why you would like to have dinner with Stephen King!

Tracy: I fell in love with Stephen King books in high school.  Someone handed me the book “The Shining” to read, and I was hooked!! My favorite is The Stand, and the Dark Tower series.  I feel he writes about those thoughts that are in the back of your mind (that may be horrible) and that you wrestle with keeping at bay.  Ray and I and the kids went on vacation to Maine on year, and we did a drive by his house.  That was pretty cool! Lol
Lexi:  My favorite book of his is also The Stand. I can't believe you drove by Stephen King's house. How awesome!

Lexi: Where is your flotilla (when it meets)?
Tracy: Currently we are in Florida, not far from Fort Lauderdale.
Lexi: I hope everyone is safe in your flotilla.  I know at least one person in Bob's has had COVID, but the man survived, thankfully.

READER INTERVIEW ~ Becky 😀

I recently had a lovely interview with Becky Claxon to get to know more about her and this is what she had to say...

Becky: I’m writing this on August 12, 2020, which is my 67 birthday.  I don’t feel 67, but more like maybe 47.  I have loved to read since a young child.  I used to have all the Nancy Drew books when I was young.  My name is on a plaque (or was) in my hometown in Indiana because of all the books I read.  Needless to say, I always tested out in school as reading three or four grade levels above me. I guess I read a lot because I am an only child and an introvert.  

 My book reading has been up and down as life has been busy or not so busy. I worked for AT&T for six years and was laid off in December 2004.  I started my own business and did a lot of the same work for AT&T but as a contractor. I worked then until 2008. In April 2006 my husband, mother, daughter, son-in-law, grandson and granddaughter moved to North Carolina from Florida. I love winter time and snow.  I am like a little kid when it snows and am the first one out in the morning to go sledding!  In July of 2006 I found out I had breast cancer.  It is not something I would wish on anyone to go through.  I did find out I was a lot stronger than I ever thought I was. I also know that I can live without hair after going through chemo!  Luckily, I am still cancer free.  In 2010 my four generations moved into a large house where we are all able to take care of each other.  My grandson will soon be 17 and my granddaughter is 15.  They have been a bright spot in my life and keep me young.  My mother will turn 92 in October and can still run rings around all of us!

Once I stopped working, I began to read more and more books.  I have a few authors I help with typo corrections and read lots of ARC’s for authors.  If I find a typo for any author, I let them know instead of complaining about it.  It is crazy how five people can look at the same thing and all five may find a typo no one else did.  Funny but it seems none of us are perfect! I probably read around 250-275 books a year.  I love romance, romance suspense, western — I guess I should say that I am not crazy about paranormal or vampire books. Reading allows me to travel to so many different places, be a different person, and make so many friends.  I also become the character in the book.  It usually takes me a few hours to go back to reality after I read a book!

This crazy Covid 19 has changed the world so much. My granddaughter and grandson play club volleyball and I love to go to all the cities and different states for their games.  That has been one of the hardest things I have had to adjust to this year as that all ended in March. I missed being able to travel to Florida to see family and friends too. We were blessed that we had an in ground pool put in August of 2018.  It has been relaxing to use the pool since we couldn’t go anywhere. And what is better than floating around reading a book!  I pray this pandemic is over soon so we can get back to normal or at least a new normal.

Your mom is my hero!  How fun to have your family all together and with a pool as well.  No way to get lonely during Covid that way. 😊 

I'm so glad you are cancer free!  It's great to know someone else prefers tea over coffee.  I really don't like the taste of coffee, even in ice cream!

Denise: Married

Denise: I like both because when I go somewhere I can have a full library to choose from.  And with hardback or paperback, I can read it as a back-up choice.


Lexi: How often do you read?
Denise: Daily

Lexi: How many books a month do you read?
Denise: Somewhere between 8 and 10, depending on their length.

Lexi: What is the first thing you do in the morning?
Denise: Eat breakfast.

Lexi: If you could re-do one thing from your past what would it be?
Denise: I would not have jumped off a small embankment and injured my left knee.

Lexi: If you could visit the past or the future, what time period would you go to?
Denise: I would go back in time so that I could see my mom and she had her vision.  I would bring pictures of my kids so she could see how they turned out.  Because in present time, my mom is in heaven.

Lexi: What kind of music do you enjoy?
Denise: I love listening to Pop-Rock, Country, and Classic Rock (Van Halen, ZZ Top, etc.)

Lexi: How many children, grandchildren, great grandchildren all total do you have?
Denise: I have 2 of my own and 2 step-daughters with 4 grandchildren (1 girl and 3 boys).

READER INTERVIEW ~ Juli 😀

Today, I am excited to be interviewing Juli Hall who is 50 years old and currently resides in Utah.

Lexi: How did you get into reading romance novels?

Juli: My mom loved and read them so when I was in my teens I started reading.

Lexi: If you could name a character in a romance novel, what would you name him or her? Why?

Juli: Olivia.  I always loved this name and wanted to name a daughter this but never could have kids.

Lexi: What is your favorite dessert?

Juli: Cookies, I love all kinds.

Lexi: I am with you on the cookies!

Lexi: What is your favorite color?

Juli: Orange and Purple.  I can’t pick just one.

Lexi: Those two colors go so well together!

Lexi: Do you have any pets?

Juli: I have 2 cats; Bob and Munchie, and 1 dog, Shyla.  I lost my other dog, Willie in May.

Lexi: I’m so sorry to hear about Willie. 😢

Lexi: Can you tell me a little more about your furbabies?

Juli: We rescued Bob & Munchie’s mom when she was pregnant with them; she was a stray that was hanging around our house. So obviously they are true brother and sister and both are 14 years old.

My dogs Shyla and Willie were true brother and sister too, we got them both from the same litter, and are also 14 years old. They are a mixed breed or aka Heinz 57 dogs. LOL!  The cats and dogs were born 3 months apart and grew up together. It was really hard loosing Willie in May, both on us and his sister, they are our babies since my husband and I couldn’t have children. 

Lexi: What type of hero is your favorite?

Juli:  I like broken bad boys.  The heroine usually fixes them. 😉
