Assassin Next Door (A Bad Boy Inc Story) by Eve Langlais

Calvin’s life is two-faced…he’s an assassin when out of town and a suburbia homeowner in between jobs.

He’s a man that should keep his eyeballs in their sockets instead of allowing himself to be distracted by the pretty little blonde next door.

Lily has nothing else on her mind except to move into her new house, take care of her young daughter, find a job, and maybe purchase a few cheap furnishings to make the house feel like a home.

Although, the gorgeous man next door, who isn’t home much, is interesting.  Lily doesn’t trust herself anyway…her ex-husband physically and mentally abused her.  She left that behind and has no need to think another man might be better.

Until Calvin helps her with a few handy-man actions, Lily wasn’t even going to meet him.   After a few encounters, she finds he has a great sense of humor.  Really?  A job as an assassin?  He’s such a jokester.

Good, she doesn’t believe Calvin could do such a horrific position…an assassin.  No one does that. 

Calvin prefers to work out of town, but his village is being overrun with drugs.  He has to do something about it, and he’d never want his darling neighbor to experience a dangerous atmosphere. 

He didn’t realize she’s right in the middle of the problem.  Lily doesn’t know it, either until chaos breaks out.

It’s magical how a little (or a lot) of danger can sprout into love!  Lily doesn’t try, but she sure succeeds in wrapping Calvin around her heart.  Great contemporary/suspense romance😊

Daughter of the Red Deer by Joan Wolf

Pre-history has an elusive and raw quality, which I was lucky enough to encounter another well written and engaging novel set in the ice age along the Pyrenees in France. 

The tribe of the Horse loses many of their women to tainted water and must resort to stealing the women from the tribe of the Red Deer.  The leader of the tribe of the Horse, Mar, a tall, powerful, and evocative man, watches the women of the Red Deer to learn their habits and the best time to kidnap them.

The women of the tribe of the Red Deer seclude themselves for a journey to get ready for mating season.  Alin will have her first man that she’s chosen to create children.  The women of Red Deer are powerful leaders and choosers of destiny and men.

The tribe of the Horse is successful in the capture of the Red Deer women.  The conflicts between the men and women contribute to a rich story on compromise, deceit, and the unforeseen love building between Mar and Alin.

You also have to remember that nothing happens quickly in this prehistoric world.  Communications, travel, the supply of clothes and food, and the retaliation from the women’s original tribe must be planned for and waited for. 

A great tribute about this story is that when you believe the rest is obvious, a knot forms in the string of events.  It’s an exciting and epic tale of how the tribe of the Red Deer will fight for their members, yet the tribe of the Horse has the opportunity to overcome the battle with more than just a return fight, but rather patience and love. 

It’s a tear jerker and the hardship of the pre-historic lives makes you wonder how they endured and survived.

Virtue Falls by Christina Dodd

Virtue Falls, Washington sounds like such an innocent and charming place.   For twenty-three years it’s been quite the opposite.

A heinous murder is reported as “husband kills wife while four-year-old daughter watches.” Elizabeth Banner, the former four-year-old, returns to Virtue Falls over two decades later as a renowned geologist with a closed personality.

An earthquake at Virtue Falls is Elizabeth’s first dream-come-true.  Studying such a phenomenon is a once in a lifetime opportunity.  Her second dream-come-true is to visit her committed father, committed for Alzheimer’s and committed for a murder he might not have performed.

Garik Jacobsen, an ex-FBI agent and ex-husband to Elizabeth finds out trouble is brewing in more than the collateral of an earthquake in Virtue Falls and comes running to save the ex-wife he still loves.

That would be Elizabeth’s third dream-come-true even though she’s not aware of it early on.

What I like about this story is the amount of suspects Dodd places in strategic positions throughout the search of Elizabeth’s mom’s murder.  Not even sure if her dad is innocent, a handful of culpable suspects surround the town.  Even more, the reigniting of love between two people who learn problems can be solved.

This is the second of her "Falls" series and well worth the enjoyable time.

The Big Blind (Nadia Wolf Novel 1) by Nicolette Pierce

I'd like to welcome our new blogger, Nicolette Pierce, who will make her debut on April 13th.  I consider that our lucky day!  Nicolette writes romantic suspense with a dose of humor.  Following is an outstanding review of the first novel in her Nadia Wolf series.

This is a story for everyone in need of a lot of humor, witty comments and descriptions, and a delightful and suspenseful story!

Nadia Wolf is like any young lady who knows what she’s good at and takes a gamble to make a living.  Nadia lives above a marriage chapel in the revered gambling city of Las Vegas.  She is a poker player by day and helps a dear friend and soon to be manager, Frankie, at his chapel.  I can’t forget to mention Gus, the on-a-diet-cat, which may be a tad grouchy but loving all the same.

Nadia, a beautiful and clumsy woman all in one, takes her poker seriously.  She has a couple eligible bachelors interested, both rich, both handsome, and both want her for more than a turn of the cards.

Her problem is she’s attracted to both, yet doesn’t want to mix poker with relationships.  Instead a deadly game with another player (poker player I mean) wants to put her underground.  She needs help from more than one bachelor and a touch of flirting doesn’t hurt.

The Nadia Wolf series is right up there with the Stephanie Plum series full of quirks, giggles, and a few serious mishaps.  I have hope for Nadia’s well-being and her eventual capture of that special man.  I haven’t finished the series yet, but I certainly hope she’s happy at the end and encourage you to find out, too!
