Interview with Jody Holford and a Giveaway!

Lexi:  Please welcome contemporary romance author, Jody Holford who has brought a giveaway with her ;-)

Jody, what are you most excited about in this new release?

Jody: In the first Kendrick Place story, readers got introduced to Wyatt Daniels and I knew he’d be well liked because he was the elusive, broody and mildly grumpy, but hot neighbor. I’m really excited to give readers his story. There are a lot of misperceptions about him from the other tenants and the woman he tries not to fall for, Shay, sees through them. He isn’t sure how he feels about her seeing past the rough exterior, but he can’t stay away.

Lexi: Where did you get the idea for this story?

Jody: I wanted to write a story that had a central location. I liked the idea of people who were connected by the space they shared. Originally, I just thought about the first story—the best friends one, but as I wrote, Wyatt came into it and he kept growing in the story and in my mind. He needed someone who not only brought out the good in him, but made him see it was there. A lot of times, when I write, the secondary characters aren’t really planned. They just become part of the story until eventually, I want to give them their own.

Lexi: What has been the best piece of advice you ever received for your writing career?

Jody: Keep writing. This is a really hard industry for people who don’t like to wait. I am not very good at waiting. But writing a story takes time, polishing takes time, sending to readers and waiting for feedback, then applying that feedback takes time. Then there’s the querying stages and even after you get an agent, there’s more waiting. Someone told me when I first started, fill the time with writing. In the last year or so, I’ve become much better at it. If you lose yourself in a new story, it’s harder to obsess about what’s happening with the other ones. Not impossible though :-)

Lexi: What does your family think of your writing career?

Jody: My family is incredible. Honestly, it overwhelms me not only how much they support and encourage me, but how invested they are in my writing. They’re really proud of me and tell me often. They give me time and space to write. My oldest remembers every character connection and title. My youngest draws me pictures to hang by my desk for when I’m working and she’s determined I need to write something she’s allowed to read. My husband is so supportive. He not only reads my work and praises it, he picks up all of my slack. People ask how I find time to write. The answer is because my family makes it possible.

Lexi: What do you think everyone should know about your husband?

Jody: He’d want me to say he’s hot and very funny. And while both are true, he’s also one of the best people I know. He makes me laugh every single day and he finds a million ways to make my life easier.

Lexi: I see you brought the first book in the Kendrick Place series More Than Friends as a giveaway. What question would you like readers to answer in the comments for a chance to win?

Jody: Do you have a favorite romance series? My go-to is the Bride Quartet by Nora Roberts.

Blurb of  the Bad Boy Next Door:
Shay Matthews moved to Boston for a fresh start...new apartment, new job, new routine. After too many years being coddled by her overbearing older brothers, Shay’s ready for some freedom and maybe a nice, easygoing guy. She wasn’t expecting to literally run into the scowling, brooding, (and unfairly smoking hot) guy next door.

Fresh off a haunting undercover assignment, detective Wyatt Daniels is jaded about life, relationships, and especially happily-ever-after. But there’s something about the independent and beautiful Shay that makes him want to dig deeper. Or stay away, which is definitely the smarter option of the two.

But the more Shay tries to convince herself that her sweet building manager, Brady, is the guy for her, the more Mr. Completely Wrong-for-Her Wyatt invades her mind and her heart.
