A Copenhagen Snowmance by Pernille Hughes

 Always check the weather before traveling, especially if your destination is undesirable during December.

A short flight from London to Copenhagen shouldn't be a problem.  Anna Lundhom figures a couple hours to pick up an eighteen month delayed project in Copenhagen is a doable plan.  The snowstorm chasing her plane into the airport proves otherwise.  All flights are cancelled.

Sure that the airport will be functioning in a few hours, Anna sets out to accomplish her mission.  

Hour after hour, the airport reports no progress on opening.  Hotels are already full.  She has friends, she has an apartment, and she has a former fiancé.  Although, she hasn't contacted her friends in the eighteen months, her apartment is rented to a man, and her fiancé is getting married to a former best friend.  

Jamie is wary when she knocks on his door.  He never met his landlord, and he wasn't looking for a roommate even for a short time.  With an uncomfortable beginning, Anna and Jamie spend time together during the storm along with repeated delays of planes.

In payment, Anna shows Jamie highlights of Copenhagen during this snowy and festive season.  She gives the reader a grand tour, also, of the customs, food and drink, and activities.  It's a magical arena, and the goodwill gets absorbed in romantic ways.

A Very Irish Christmas by Debbie Johnson

 Cassie O' Hara is in a rut.  Keep lamenting the lost groom-to-be, as she is doing, or move on.  So far, this Christmas season she's chosen to keep reminding herself of her loss by watching her almost wedding video.  Right up to when her fiancé, at the altar of course, said he couldn't finish the nuptials.  

Worthless, that's how she feels.  Her sister and her mom aren't any help with their constant reminders of her uselessness.  Cassie comes up with a great idea, egged on by her BFF, and decides to skip the Manhattan Christmas.

With a small inheritance from her grandmother, Nora, she books a trip to England for a month with hopes of a vintage and magical Christmas.  Her reservation at Whimsy Cottage should do it.

Whimsy cottage is cold, dusty, and with sheets over the sparse furniture.  Now what?

The nearest pub should be warm and offer food.  If the dog stalking her on her trek down the street signifies the coming month in England, she might be in trouble.

A tall, gregarious, and handsome Irish man, Ryan, takes Cassie under his wing, advising her to contact Charles, Lord Bancroft, about a suitable room until the Whimsy Cottage is prepped.

Ryan is the local handyman, and Charles is the local lord.  They both have Cassie's well-being in hand.  She helps Ryan clean the cottage along with deep discussions over a pint or two of Guiness.  Charles offers his mansion during cleanup time including deep discussions and plentiful warmth and food.

Cassie hasn't had a legitimate date in three years, and now two eligible and fine men want her attention.  Who wins her heart and how does he triumph over the other?  Not to mention the country she must choose!  

Love is a wonderful experience surrounded by snow, lights, and decorations of an English Christmas.

Good Elf Gone Wrong by Alina Jacobs

 The perfect story to start off the holiday season!  Atrociously funny and smirk-worthy retribution from the people-pleasing and loveable sister to the opposite sister.

Grace plans everything with an enviable skill, which includes her whole family, her friends', and her work cohorts' events.  She never says no and never fails to perfect all details involved.

Her favorite holiday is Christmas, so it's not a surprise that she plans her wedding for this special and glittery day.  The decorations, food, lighting, music, drinks will all engage the wonderful season, and there will never be too much sparkle.

 That's until Grace finds her sister panting under the Christmas tree with Grace's fiancé.  

Of course, it's Grace's fault.  Everything is her fault because she's the one setting up all activities and gatherings.  It' even her fault when her fiancé proposes to her sister.   

That's the final pinecone from the pine tree.  

Grace is excellent at planning, and the plan is now revenge.

She meets Hudson, the bad boy and not her type, on the bus.  How she got so lucky to hatch a revenge plan with him, she'll regretfully learn much later.  Right now, he's the perfect explosion for her sister, former fiancé, and even her love life.

With all the attributes of the boy who shouldn't meet your mom, Hudson plays the part all too well.  He arrives at Grace's family home dressed in black, uncouth actions, bad language, and cozying up to the sister.  It's all part of the plan.

What isn't part of the plan, is that Hudson likes Grace, yet he has a ghastly second mission that she won't like.  It wouldn't matter, but her heart and mind betray the plan by falling for the bad boy-man.

Now it's time to find out if Grace can get her revenge and if Hudson can fulfill his secondary mission without breaking too many hearts.  Including the melded hearts of the two schemers.

All I Ever Needed by Stacy Kristen

 If you need to cool down in the summer heat, quickly, this is the romance to read.  You may get a chill in Foxtail Ridge as the residents are getting ready for Christmas and heading toward Valentine's Day for the finale.  

In addition, Abbie Marsh, editorial consultant, has a cold edge to men in her life.  This is easy right now because there aren't any.  She's all business including helping her sister open a B & B along with snaring her soon-to-be husband.  

Matt Ellis wants to be all business, but he has writer's block from every angle and his author title is in jeopardy.  The more he tries to write and create, the more his words are nonexistent.  He needs help.

The initial video meeting of Abbie and Matt is a cold shower.  Abbie becomes bitchy when she considers Matt an untalkative, uncooperative grump.  And they are both stubborn.  

The only way to overcome this tug-of-war, is for them to ease up on their attitudes. 

Matt begins to try Abbie's writing suggestions.  He'll have to admit, with excitement, some bullet points are working.  

Abbie begins to enjoy the new laughter in Matt's calls.  

Working together may have a few advantages not considered at the beginning.  Abbie brings Matt's career back in focus, Matt helps Abbie at her sister's B&B, and a little time off the work clock is fun. 

And more time off the clock is good for the heart.  Matt could write that story while Abbie edits it to a Happily Ever After.

 Fit in with the neighborhood.  That includes Christmas lawn decorations.  Don't stand out.  Leave your former life behind, and you'll be safe.  Rules of the Witness Protection Program must be followed.

Anna Lewis is a rule follower, but fitting in didn't help her this time.  The teenager next door takes too many pictures, and they end up online.  With Anna in a neighborhood Christmas photo, she's spotted by the cartel that wants her dead.

Diego Mendez is sent to protect her until she's relocated with another identity.  It would be less of a problem if the holiday wouldn't slow the process down.  Worse yet, the cartel has already found her.

During the time Anna and Diego are forced into a claustrophobic relationship, small personality traits are revealed.  Anna has not gotten close to anyone, let alone a man, since she witnessed an admission from a human trafficker and testified against him.

Now, trust is a must in order to stay alive.  Trust develops into a caring and loving emotion under some circumstances.  Can it be pursued?  Can love last?  

Running for your life while falling in love is a grand scale to test your future.  Let's root for a passing grade on this test!

The Christmas Breakup Club by Luci Beach

 Anyone with the name of "Holly" cannot have a bad holiday.  I just made up that rule.  That's the only rule I have to make up because the story takes care of itself from here.

Newly dumped by her boyfriend, Holly agrees to cat-sit for her boss over Christmas.  Holly's mom is in Scotland and her father in Tasmania, which are both too far from England.  She'd be an inconvenience in their style.  A cozy apartment above a department store all rigged up for an English Christmas with a fury friend will do her just fine.  

The posh apartment is under remodeling, but at least there's a microwave for her Christmas TV dinner.  The one thing Holly needs to look into is the drip from the ceiling otherwise she'd not leave the couch.

Upstairs is another apartment with Joe as the tenant.  He's also the handyman for the whole building and seems to be slacking on his duties.  Holly will make sure he changes his work commitment.

Fixing the leak leads to many strange adventures, riding a sleigh in the department store underneath them, strolling the Christmas lit streets, and microwaving dinner together.  

Until Eleanor invades.  She's Joe's (ex?) girlfriend.  Handling a perfect cat, a leaky ceiling, and mischief in a closed department store is one thing, but dealing with a possible girlfriend leaves Holly wondering if she's wrong about liking the man upstairs too much.  

If only she knew what Joe was thinking.  Maybe he can change Holly's rules for the Christmas Breakup Club.

Confessions of a Christmasholic by Joss Wood

What's the best way to find your holiday romance??  

Sutton hates Christmas and shows it by falling down drunk after tripping the electric to the hundreds of lighted decorations on Gus Langston's, AKA Mr. Christmas's, lawn and breaking the reindeer, snowmen, and elves.  This all happens in concert while Gus beats the "effing shite" out of the blow-up Santa with shouts of hatred for Christmas.  

The charming Lake District of England is covered in glistening snow, holiday decorations, and mostly good cheer.

The morning after Sutton and Gus had equally vented their frustrations of the season on his lawn, a massive, out-of-character hangover and embarrassment are partially explained.  

Sutton is out of money and needs a place to stay for a few weeks until she moves on with her OT carrier in London.  Gus is strapped with being the number one "Mr. Christmas" as a widower with four-year old twins and a dog named Pig.  He also owns two businesses, one being the year-round Christmas store.  

Both needing some good cheer, they make a deal to help each other out for the few weeks prior to Christmas.  

With an ear to listen and sort out misgivings, Sutton and Gus do their best to remain solely friends.  The more time they spend together, the closer they become.  A quick fling with no strings attached might just release more tension, so why not try it?

Some unintentional flings turn into love.  Can Sutton and Gus allow this or even admit it?  Can they mesh their lives, or should they simply enjoy the couple of weeks?  I have a vote for this one and hope you enjoy the read to find out the answer!

Christmas Inn Trouble by Brooks Wright

 Cora loves her work as a financial analyst.  She breezes into a town, crunches numbers, and makes the burger and fries chain restaurants pop up.  She leaves town and moves to the next.

Her current location, Starville, Kentucky, happens to be her childhood hometown.  It'll be a nice visit until she is shuttled on to her next work location.

Walking up to the local and very charming Inn, Cora pauses after entering and feels the warmth and cheer of Christmas in every nook of the establishment.  It's like walking into the past.  Everything is warm and glowing with a tasty smell wafting in circles.

That means a burger and fries place is needed.  It will work well in a town with so many friendly faces needing a quick dinner instead of always waiting for a table at the one busy Inn.  

Levi owns, cooks, serves, and hosts the Inn.  He loves his town and loves his Inn.  

When he learns that Cora wants to okay the finances for building the franchise, he's devastated and his friendly demeanor toward her diminishes.

Cora has one issue developing.  Her quaint childhood hometown is so perfect already.  Yet, she wants to be successful in placing the fast-food restaurant.  Oh, yeah, and Levi does have a wonderful charm that she is reticent to destroy.  

With this in mind, Cora agrees to help the town with a Christmas charity.  

The snow, warm lights, decorations, smiling faces on children, and nostalgia soften Cora's one-tract business mind.  Levi allows his heart to grow toward the lovely lady invading his town, hoping for a truce in romance and business.  

The romance and business are intertwined, so can they budget for both?  

'Tis the season for peace and love!

Rent Yourself An Elf by Savannah Scott

 Not too late for a great Christmas story.  Don't forget Easter is just around the corner and the holidays are related!  For whatever reason, I was in the mood to read this.

It's a delightful rom-com, and Noelle has a problem with Christmas.  It's not that she doesn't like it, but rather it was always centered around her grandmother who has passed and left her home for Noelle as an inheritance.

The house is old and needs a few minor repairs.  As a grade school teacher, Noelle has little time to do much more than plan to teach and teach.  She squeezes in a few dinners with her best friends.

They surprise her with an elf because she needs entertainment other than just work.  

His name is Liam.

Liam is a handyman for hire, wearing a Santa hat for the occasion, and appears at Noelle's door to do handywork for two days.  He's too busy and consumed with his trade to think about women.  

Noelle isn't perfect like her sister.  Yet, Liam notices everything good about her immediately.  

The kindling is set for the fire.

When she gets herself in a pickle over needing a date for a family event, let's see if Liam can fill the ticket. 

The match is lit and will the fire burn?!

 It's a feel-good read and can be enjoyed even without decorations and snow for the holiday!

Books and the Holidays

 This is all about a happy holiday season and the things you give (up) and what gets done (or not)!

I'll start with what I've given and hope it makes a difference.  I've given a donation to my favorite charity, which helps domestic animals that are found to not have a happy life.  My hope is their lives are made better.  All animals should be spoiled.  

I also planted eight trees, maple, redwood, birch, and others, to help clarify the air.  Not to mention more shade and beauty all around.  

I compliment people for no reason at all.  Everyone should feel good about themselves, which can spread like a smile.

Moving on, I've given up trying to get a whole novel read this month.  Too many things keeping me busy.  By the time I want to sit down and soak in a great story, my heavy eyelids win out.

I always have a list of "Things to Do".  Now, this list can get out of hand.  I love to cross off what gets done, hoping to leave time to read or write.  Unfortunately, there's a pen laying around ready to keep adding necessary ideas.  The list never ends, and my lonely book or e-reader sits on the table glaring at me.  I think I made that up!

Overall, I've gotten a lot done and given my time resourcefully.  Yet, I won't give up on reading and writing or eventually getting another story read or written!

Christmas at Fireside Cabins by Jenny Hale

 The warmth, love, and cheer of Christmas are in every page of Jenny Hale's story.  

The atmosphere couldn't be warmer than the cabins in the mountains of Tennessee with white snow draped over the evergreens.

Here's the problem...  Lila is a wonderful woman who followed her sweetheart to Nashville and promptly got dumped.  Her job sucks, and she doesn't know what to do next.  Fortunately, she has a fabulous group of girlfriends.  That's not enough because they're all moving on in their lives with work and family.

One last grand Christmas week together is what Lila has.

The girls rent a spot at Fireside Cabins.  The cabin is worn, the host is lonely and in need of spirit, and the coffee shop has a handsomely, cranky bachelor ignoring his customers.

Theo owns the coffee shop, but closes himself from feeling, well, anything.  He could be a thoughtful and caring man, if he didn't have to hide.  

Lila sees all the beauty and anguish in the merry week of Christmas with friends, and needs to fix it.  That's what she does.  And Theo is on the list of needing fixing.

A delightful holiday romance.  Hale gives me goosebumps of cheer and many other Christmas stories to read.

A Mistletoe Kiss (A Tangled Charms Romance) by Jennifer Faye

The village of Marietta has everything for a perfect Christmas, falling snow, soft lights around the streets, and Suzanna Simms who can't help violate her own commitment of being single for this year's holiday.

Suzanna has been around the block on the almost-married circuit and wants peace this year.  Her artsy knick-knack store, Tangled Charms, will keep her plenty busy along with friends and family.

Jake Hamilton, her new next-door neighbor, feels the same way about getting tangled up in a relationship.  He has his furry St Bernard to keep him company during dinners of pizza and to-go food.

It's just funny how they keep running into each other, needing assistance with lights or carrying groceries, and sneaking extra opportunities to informally end up together.  

Somehow, Suzanna and Jake end up together, no strings attached, at her parents for dinner.  Family, thinking she needs a boyfriend, assume they're together.  And then the fun really starts as Jake and Suzanna fake it through the holiday season.

Pay attention to when the "faking" is real.  It's hard to pick the right episode, whether it's the contagious smile, the slip of his arm around her waist, or a trip to the ice skating rink!

It's quite uncomfortable when Emma clues into the fact that she had been the target and has to interact with Sterling.  Repeatedly.
Sterling never lost his love for Emma.  How is it possible he can be around her, investigate thoroughly, and keep his lips off her mouth?  From the tabloids, he knows she dates men much better than himself.
Glamour doesn't make one person better than another, and that's a lesson taught and hopefully learned in both their minds.
There may be murder and jealously intertwined in this Canadian Christmas, but it's a spectacular light lit on top the Christmas tree that can enlighten the heart with love.

Merry Christmas Eve!

It's that time of year again. Yes, my husband and I are hosting our annual Christmas Eve party.

He loves cooking for large crowds and we've been hosting Christmas parties since 2010. While in the Caribbean, it was pretty easy because we always knew it would be warm, plus we had the beach where we built a large, multilevel fire pit.

Here in Florida, my husband had to get a little more creative. As with our parties in the Caribbean, this one is growing, too. In fact, at last count, we are expecting 72 people! Luckily, we bought a tent.

We hand out invitations over a month in advance. We start decorating even sooner! Outside, we make sure there are plenty of lights so people can see when they walk out to their car at the end of the evening.

 And of course we decorate inside, too. I'm in charge of the inside trees, there are 4 this year. I'm also in charge of decorating my office. My husband does all the rest.

We have a great time and at the end of the night, we sometimes have leftovers we can have for Christmas dinner 😊 The whole event is a present to our friends and family.

I'm looking forward to Monday. 

After all, "It was the night before Christmas, and all through Lexi's house, the people were celebrating with she and her spouse. All the decorations were hung by her hubby with care, the guests complimenting them in their holiday wear."

RED CHRISTMAS, ANYONE?

Hey there! How are ya’all? Good, I hope! It's the season of love, hope, and joy, and I hope you have all three—in spades! 

Things are fabulous here…cannot wait to see what the new year will bring us. Hope your plans for the new year are as tremendous as mine. Because I’m expecting wonderful things! Huge things! Stupendous things! LOL

So, while I’m on the topic of wonderful things, I just wanted to take a second to fill ya’all in on my Christmas…because I know those of you who have been following my Christmas blogs are all wondering what Kayce got for Christmas this year. (I've already received inquiries. LOL) Did she get a new can opener this year? Or was it a coffee maker? Or did Christmas go in a completely new direction and bring her a new mixer, or a crock pot, or a new truck? And was it RED?

Okay, so Kayce just bought herself a new truck last December, so she really didn’t need another one…and they’re pretty pricey, so that didn’t happen this year. LOL  So, what was under that tree?

  

Well, for those who don’t follow my blogs religiously, there is a history here. My son, Dustin, has a tremendous (read twisted) sense of humor…and he lives to mess with his mother. (No doubt, it’s payback for all the years I messed with him.) So, in years past, he has bought his mom a number of can openers—RED—and a number of coffeemakers—RED. Two years ago, he had his wife purchase a red coffeemaker for mom (as a joke), knowing she already had one exactly like it. (Poor Heather got caught in the middle on that one. LOL)

So, mom told him last year “no more coffeemakers”. There just wasn’t room on the counter for a third red coffeemaker. And when I get up in the morning, it’s just such a challenge to put one foot in front of the other to get to the kitchen—let alone, having to choose which coffeemaker to use that day! Dustin was crushed, but he decided not to be deterred…after all, a good time was a good time. But, thankfully he understood the limitations of space on the counter and did not get me a new coffeemaker.

Instead, he got me a new red can opener…like I didn’t already have one. Okay, it was a good laugh for everyone—and a good laugh is a wonderful thing—and I didn’t have to make room on the counter for it.

We’re good.

Now we have a new Christmas, and a new gift to buy, to give, to look forward to, and to receive. What will it be this year? And will it be RED?

Well, hell yeah, it’ll be RED!

And bless his heart, my son found a way to both please his mother, and to give her yet another coffeemaker…a RED KEURIG!!!! And I freaking LOVE it!

Woo Hoo…hell yeah, I’ll make room on the counter for that beauty! (But next year I might need a new house, or at least a new kitchen. Just sayin...smile)  

Well, folks, it’s been a great year and it was topped off with a fun and fabulous Christmas and a new RED Keurig. Now it’s time to look forward to 2018. I hope you have an outstanding year ahead and that you enjoyed the story about my Red Christmas. I sooo love red!
